These are the albums that got me through my high school years (1984-1988) and began a lifelong addiction with music.

The starred albums were the most frequently listened to in my friend Jeff's tan Fairmont station wagon while cruising through Rochester, Michigan.

You already had pretty good taste in music in high school. My high school album list would consist of stuff by AC/DC, Judas Priest, Rush, Iron Maiden and Metallica. Luckily, right before I left for college in '87 I wandered into my sister's room and started listening to The Smiths, The Cure and R.E.M. It got even better when I left for college and discovered punk.

My metal phase was a little bit earlier, and it was skewed more to Rush, Van Halen, and AC/DC rather than the harder stuff. Unfortunately, I didn't have an older sib to show me the way, but my friend did. We used to raid his vinyl collection and make mix tapes when we were in 8th grade. My very first had stuff by Depeche Mode, Icicle Works, XTC, Oingo Boingo and...Prince (from Around the World in a Day.)

Good times.

Amazing, my high school era was 1989-1993 and I would have listed R.E.M., XTC and They Might Be Giants as essential bands. I'd probably have to include Pixies as well.

It's a testament to all those bands that they released great albums during both of our high school years.

I have to admit that I never really liked the Pixies until just a few years ago. They're definitely the band for which I'm most behind the curve.
