- Ah-Ha (norwegian, on a guess from 1922)
- Modern Talking (german as 1922 states because he knows good music)
- Roxette (swedish, said Penny)
- Telephone (didn't sing in english, broke up in 1986, widely considered the quintessential rock band in this country)
- F4 (four-member boys band who broke all sales records in their part of the world)
- Avalanche (one-hit wonder from the cold)
- Trio (I love you, you love me not)
- Telex (you can find this answer in another one of my lists)
- Yello (JohnnyW guessed swiss and was right)
- Heroes del Silencio (spanish, as correctly stated by Critico)
- The Scene (you can assume this band's members ride bicycles)
- Sugarcubes (icelandic, naturally, as Penny pointed out)
- Split Enz (art-fart band lead by very young Finn brothers was definitely from New Zealand, JohnnyW got it)
- Barbie's Cradle (this band's members first names are Barbie, Rommell and Wendell)
- Starshooter (see Telephone)
- Front 242 (see Telex)
- Per's Garage (oh, come on, this one should be obvious, it's a garage owned by Per)
- The Ark (if you really don't know this band, it's time you do some internet search, they're great in their own glam-revival niche)
- Litfiba (the name ends in "a", what does it tell you ?)
- Falco (austrian, of course, 1922)
- 883 (the trick here is to know how to pronounce the numbers, the 3 is "tre")
- Magna Carta (see The Scene)
- Shocking Blue (dutch, they were, as JohnnyW points out)
- Stinky Toys (one of the best punk-rockers not from the UK)
- Ticha Dohoda (when they started out their country was one, now it's two)
- Smudge (this band's leader doesn't want to be Grant McLennan)
- Thee Michelle Gun Elephant (owww, the miswriting of the first word and overall silliness of the name are clues in themselves)
- Red Rider (search my favorite songwriters list for a big clue near the end of the list)
Author Comments:
think small european countries, think large asian countries, think any country... and have a guess, if you must.
September 06: added clues in the hope that someone might still be interested in this game

Since Björk was once in the Sugarcubes, I'm guessing they hailed from the land of geysers and skýr.
Was Roxette Swedish?
Modern Talking (shudder) is German, and Ah-Ha is either from Sweden or from Norway.
And Falco was of course from Austria.
Hey, Modern Talking were wonderful... they took all the worst bits of Schlägermusiek and mixed them in syrupy layers of early 80's synthesizer and had at least three worldwide hits (You're my heart, you're my soul, Cherie Cherie Lady and Brother Louie)... you gotta respect that... and they had such beautiful, beautiful hair... and their trademark logo made of their shoes was simply brilliant... oh, I love being sarcastic!
So, we have winners here... yes, Roxette were swedish... and no, Morten and friends were not swedish... Thanks and keep playing.
Heroes del Silencio is Spanish, i like Bunbury solo work better.
thank you... so, after your enquiring about Shakira in another of my lists, now you know and like Heroes, so I assume YOU must be spanish...
I'm venezuelan, i was born in Spain tho, but i have never lived there.
oh, ok that's great... Venezuela holds the worldwide record for most Miss World and/or Miss Universe beauty pageant finalists, doesn't it ?
I think it used to be, now India is pretty close.
I'm pretty sure that Shocking Blue is Dutch and that Split Enz is New Zealandic (is that a word?), but I'm less sure about Yello: Swiss? And you may be thinking of a different artist, but The Avalanches hail from Australia.
Johnny Waco
I was not thiking of The Avalanches indeed... Avalanche was a one-hit wonder duo from the late 80's their mega-hit was a catchy synth&guitar song called "Johnny Johnny come home"... As for Yello, yes they are swiss... your other two are obviously correct...
