What does it say that my list this year is almost identical to my list last year?

Ah, Escape from Monkey Island. Personally, I like the first three games a lot better despite the better graphics in the 4th, but Escape is a good game too. I'm a real sucker for those classic LucasArts adventure games.

Is it a horrible thing to admit that I haven't played the first three games, and didn't even know they existed? I just got this game because it has monkeys and pirates. HuhZAH!

The other game under consideration is Clock Tower 2. Any thoughts?

Nah, no problem. Monkeys and pirates are certainly a good enough driving factor. If you like Escape from Monkey Island, you should definitely check out the other games. If you don't like it, then depending on what you disliked about it, I could recommend or unrecommend the other games.

Basically, what I didn't like about Escape from Monkey Island as compared to the other games are: (1) the controls (the first three games are simply point-and-click), (2) some of the puzzles are just really random, and the difficulty comes not from a logical thought process but because the solutions are just so stupid (the first three games have much less of this, though sometimes you just have to put a banana on a metronome), and (3) the complex monkey insult tournament (the first three games have actual English insults and comebacks, and they're funny). So if you like the humor, plot, and general style of EFMI, but not any one of those three things, check out the first three.

Thanks for the advice! I'll be on the lookout as I play. Banana, metronome. No, I certainly wouldn't have thought of that.
