this list, like all the others, grew out of ones I have stored in various forms in various places, and will be updated as I find those other pieces. suggestions always welcome.

Curious: why'd ya give up on Netflix?
lol you love netflix :)
It allows me to see SOOOOOO many films I could never see any other way (or, it would be very inconvenient any other way), and it's just so easy. I think I'd prefer Greencine if I lived in Cali, though, for their selection.
your right, they are great. i use one called "Screenselect" its great.
ah, right, the UK's clone of Netflix. Cool. Yeah, I'm not so much in love with Netflix as I am with the whole DVD-rental-by-mail industry/idea.
Ah, only because I don't have the time to watch so many movies anymore to make it worth it. I love the service, but I hardly watch two movies a month these days, and $11 isn't worth it for each of them. I used to split it with my roommates. Plus, the more I get from them, the more time I spend watching movies, which isn't a particularly good thing *for me* right now.
If you live in Chicago, Facets is waayyy better than netflix, they have about 10 times more foreign films than netflix has
IIRC, they also started as a dirty video store and illegally sold beacoups of bootlegs from Criterion's withdrawn Salo disc.
But yeah, they do have quite the selection. I just felt like spitting out some slanderous trivia I happen to know about the store. :)
Shalom, y'all!

Facets is not a DVD-by-mail service, though?
Yes it is, the main drawback is that, unlike netflix, you have to call or email them with your requests, you can't just do it all online. I don't know if you have to live in the Chicago area to suscribe, but you can look up their website, facets.org I hope this was of some help....
I looked at the sight and apparently it's only for Chicago-ites.
Oh well, at least I have it.... ;)
Well, I don't live in Chicago, but it seems that their rent-by-mail is not restricted to Chicago. However, I still can't find Ladies... in their catalog (neither are on Greencine). But, do I want to pay $24 just for that one movie? Not at this point.
