While there's no actual theme to this mix, the first eight songs comprise a mini-rock-opera that I call "Walk Between the Cool Swan Street Raindrops."

It was my mix that starts with XTC and I also got your mix. I liked most of the indie songs especially Ben Folds Five and The Afghan Whigs. Some of the older songs i really appreciated were The Zombies, Spirit and that excellent Frank Zappa song which makes want to hear alot more of his music. The songs i didn't like were by The O’Jays, Urinetown Original Cast Recording, Average White Band and Pet Shop Boys. Only two of the tracks i had heard before which were by Elliott Smith and Books both of which i'm fan of. Thank you for a good mix.
So, what did you think of mine?
Sorry I missed this post for so long! I just noticed it.
I think you did a better job of creating a feel to your mix than I did - while mine just tend to be collections of songs I like, yours had real atmosphere, which I liked a lot. I didn't really hate anything on it; some songs underwhelmed me, but they were still part of that larger whole. I had heard seven songs on it before (Bowie, Spoon, Microphones, Four Tet, Brian Eno, Talk Talk, Wire). I love XTC, Tom Waits, and Architecture in Helsinki, but I had never heard those songs before, so it was great to hear some of their lesser-known (but still awesome) tracks. Other standouts for me were Latest Disgrace, I'm So Green, Hilted, and Sleep. Thanks very much!
By the way, Frank Zappa has had a long and eclectic career. A lot of it is great, but much of it is great in different ways. "Call Any Vegetable" is from the Absolutely Free album, which contains a lot of songs - some more bizarre, some less bizarre - but which sound very different from the Hot Rats and Uncle Meat albums of just a few years later. If you liked "Call Any Vegetable," I'd feel pretty safe recommending Absolutely Free and also probably We're Only In It For the Money to you, but I have no idea if you'd like his other albums. Keep that in mind, but I hope you like what you hear!
I think i'll have to use more obscure songs next time but as long as you got something from it.
I listened to Hot Rats and liked it so i also got my hands on We're Only In It For the Money, One Size Fits All and Over-Nite Sensation. I'll try to listen to Absolutely Free as well.
