Update 3/31 - I saw Raging Bull yesterday. What a difference several years and a lack of distractions make. It's his best. I'm not influenced by what this critic or that critic has to say. It just really is his best. Another Scorsese film that I've seen since I first posted this list is The Age of Innocence. I didn't think too much of it.

I don't know the order Scorsese puts his favorites in. My 5 favorite Scorsese are in the order I like them.

Highly original choices. My favourite by Scorsese is clearly Taxi Driver, second After Hours and the third Raging Bull.

For Scorsese's fav. films: I think The Searchers is definetly no surprise at all.

I should give Raging Bull another go. I could have been too hard on it the first time by comparing it to some earlier boxing films - Body & Soul, Champion and The Set-Up.
After Hours I haven't seen.

Unusual + interesting choice for Scorsese. I don't think any of your 5 are anywhere near the same league as his faves. I'd pick The Age of Innocence (which shows the influence of Welles- Kane, Magnificent Ambersons- and The Leopard) and Raging Bull as his 2 best, ahead of Goodfellas. And of course Taxi Driver's very popular too.

We have a difference of opinion.
