Here are some horror movie moments that really freaked me out when I watched them.
I also love the scene from Shining, and "Invasion of the bodysnatchers". Freaked me out when I saw them first. Didn't see the other two yet. Another scene that always kills me is in Roeg's "Don't look now", when Sutherland faces the dwarf at the end of the film. Fantastic!
I haven't seen that one, but I came across this site where it is listed as one of the 'Greatest Scariest Movie Moments and Scenes'.
You should see Poltergeist, a pretty good movie. But it's only really effective if you see it as a child :-)
Skies full of winged monkeys -- The Wizard of Oz
Mmmhh...I think I was too old when I watched that movie. But I can imagine this scene to be quite scary for children, though it is supposed to be a kid's movie.
But so is Willy Wonka. And Dumbo, and Pinocchio (and almost every other Disney movie, for that matter)...
