These books, movies, etc. will help you swear off alcohol, drugs, gambling, a life of crime, etc. for life.
Recommendations are welcomed!

I'd also be interested in knowing what it was, in particular, that affected you most about your suggestion(s).
For life of crime, I think a good choice would be "Reservoir Dogs", and I think the reasons are pretty evident.
I tried to think of some, but came up blank! My brain is clearly not engaged yet this morning. So I tried Googling some, and found this top 10 list (Trainspotting is #3 and Requiem for a Dream is #1). Turns out I've only seen three of the movies on it (the two I've mentioned plus Traffic (which, while good, does not deserve to edge out Trainspotting for the two-spot)). So maybe I can't think of any because I haven't seen any!
I haven't even heard of the bottom four movies on this list. And, while I usually love (and possibly prefer) old movies, I think for this list, the two pre-1970 movies are probably bad choices. Although I admit I haven't seen them, the most shocking and disturbing drug images are probably in newer films. Which isn't anything against those movies, but about what the filmmakers could get away with back then.
I haven't actually seen it, but would Leaving Las Vegas qualify for this?
