Rolling Stone's criteria
"Each movie had to embody that rock spirit of artful defiance. Each director had to be limited to only one movie... Anything dutiful I tossed. Don't look for the biggest cash cow (Titanic), the winner of the most Oscars (Ben-Hur) or film-school staples like Battleship Potemkin. The 100 maverick movies on this list have one more thing in common: They're alive."
That said, I look to this list as yet another list of must-watch for myself. The one's I have seen are in all caps. Yes, I feel ignorant.
Thanks for posting this list, jen. Many of my own faves are on it, and some I need to see, and some (e.g. BLUE VELVET) I need to re-view and reconsider.
The movies I would recommend here which are not in caps are as follows : Raging Bull, Do The Right Thing, Badlands, Don't Look Now, Midnight Cowboy.
