Road Trip Tunes

Tags:
  • Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (self-explanatory)
  • Driving in my Car - Geggy Tah ("All I wanna do is to thank you even though I don't know who you are. You let me change lanes while i was driving in my car.")
  • Pole Position - Folk Implosion (cuz aren't we all racecar drivers?)
  • Woman Driving, Man Sleeping - Eels (appropriate but don't fall asleep while listening)
  • The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side - Magnetic Fields ("I'm the ugliest guy on the Lower East Side but I've got wheels and you want to go for a ride.")
  • Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra (of Volkswagen ad fame)
  • Beautiful Day - U2 ("You're on the road but you've got no destination")
  • Freedom - George Michael (cuz that's what you feel out on the open road, right? plus, it's a catchy toon)
  • There is a Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths ("Driving in your car I never never want to go home")
  • Fly Me to the Moon - Astrud Gilberto (cuz flyin's sorta like drivin'?)
  • Car Song - Elastica (duh)
  • Freedom - Rage Against the Machine (see above re: Freedom)
  • Go With the Flow - Queens of the Stone Age (just to wake you up)
  • Southside - Moby ("I pick up my friends and we start to ride.")
  • Ride Wit Me - Nelly (self-explanatory)
  • Roam - B52s (self-explanatory)
  • Country Roads - John Denver (big finish)

Interesting list but obviously, my version of it would be drastically different :)

it really is a mishmash of tunes, but one that i made for my cousin on a road trip a while back that i thought i might add to later. i'd be curious to hear what would be on your list. i like your punk 101 list! :)

thank you...
I guess my list of "songs to drive with" would include more classics and, obviously, personal favorites like Tom Petty's either "runnin' down a dream" or "love is a long road" and Tom Cochrane's "life is a highway" and John Hiatt's "riding with the king" and Gin Blossom's "allison road" for example.

Road Trippin' - Red Hot Chili Peppers

appropriate indeed. :)

Is that Geggy Tah song in a movie or a tv show soundtrack? , i just download it, and i know i heard the song before and its driving me crazy.

I remember now, is from a car commercial.

that could be the answer to many a song question! :)

No Particular Place To Go - Chuck Berry
Take Me Ridin' in the Car Car - Woody Guthrie
Cool in the Backseat - The Nields
I Drove All Night - Roy Orbison
Keep on Rollin' - REO Speedwagon
Red Barchetta - Rush
State Trooper, Working on the Highway, Sherrie Darlin', Born To Run et al - Bruce Springsteen
On the Road to Find Out - Cat Stevens
and
Jessica - The Allman Brothers just because.

If you want a real narrative arc we'll set out to the tune of...
On the Road Again - Willie Nelson
and go through the emotional journeys of...
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
You Can Sleep While I Drive - Melissa Etheridge
1952 Vincent Black Lightning - Richard Thompson
...but that kind of driving music puts me right to sleep.

Thanks for the suggestions! I may have to pass on REO Speedwagon, but the rest are good. :)

"Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
You Can Sleep While I Drive - Melissa Etheridge"

Love this 2, guess I'm in a bit of an emotional side then ;-) Fearless love album by Melissa is also a great collection of songs. Just checked Melissa Etheridge concert schedule, I hope she'll get to sing songs from that album.
