These are movies and their remakes, of which I've seen both. The better of the two is highlighted.

I could have sworn The Thing was a remake, but I can't find the original in the IMDb.
Jim, both THE THING [82] and THE THING (FROM ANOTHER WORLD)[51] were based on the short story "Who Goes There?" by John W.Campbell Jr (writng as Don A.Stuart). The story was first published in 1938.
How 'bout Godzilla? :-)
OK, last one for now . . . How about La Femme Nikita vs. Point of No Return (I know what popular opinion is on this one)?
I have yet to see the original La Femme Nikita, so I can't make a judgement yet. Point of No Return was okay, though a little dark. Bridget Fonda wore some awesome outfits, though.
As for Godzilla, I have yet to see the new one, and don't remember the original well enough to make a judgement (unless, of course, the new one is really bad.)
You should definitely rent La Femme Nikita, although if I recall correctly, it is a bit darker (and better) than Point of No Return.
How about Dangerous Liasons/Valmont/Cruel Intentions? All based off the same story...some adaptations better than others.
I saw Dangerous Liasons, and thought it rather stupid. (Sorry!) I haven't seen the others, so I can't comment on relevant merits.
I would say that Dangerous Liasons was the most lavish, over the top version. Valmont was more understated. Cruel Intentions was the obnoxious teen version. Still, all had the very same plot...so you're probably not missing anything.
what about Psycho vs. Psycho?
I haven't (and won't) seen either. I do suspect, however, that the original was probably the better of the two. Anyone care to offer an opinion?
Hitchcock version wins hands down as does Sam Peckinpaugh's THE GETAWAY.
i disagree. i liked the remake much better.
psycho, that is
How about Kubrick's "Lolita" and Lynne's "Lolita"? Personally, I'd go with Adrian Lynne's version.
What about Sabrina vs. Sabrina? The first was a wonderful movie, but how do you think the remake compared?
Here are some others: "Invasion of the Boby Snatchers" 1956, 1979, and "Body Snatchers" 1994. "The Vanishing"- foreign 1988, American 1993. "La Femme Nikita" and "Point of No Return." "Diabolique" 1955 (awesome) and "Diabolique" 1996 (yuk). "Sabrina" 1954 and 1995. "These Three" 1936 and "The Children's Hour" 1961. Capra's "Lady For a Day" and "Pocketful of Miracles." "His Girl Friday" and "The Front Page." Shirley Temple's "A Little Princess" and Alfonso Cuaron's "A Little Princess." Errol Flynn's "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and Costner's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." "Parent Trap" 1961 and 1998. That's enough for now.
Village of the Damned -- 1960 and 1995. Haven't seen either, so can't really say which was better.
The Fly - 1958 and 1986. Both good, but I would lean towards the newer version.
I rented the 1986 version for the party after my junior prom in high school. Such a romantic. I'd agree that it's the superior version.
