Many people talk about Heavy D, Shinehead, DJ Kool Herc and the NY-Kingston hip-hop connection. BUT how often is Jamaica discussed as a source of many top disco/dance superstars?

Carl Douglas is Jamaican? Who knew? I didn't! Errol Brown, the lead singer and chief songwriter of Hot Chocolate is from "the island"? I knew about Grace Jones, but not about Jesse Green or Curtis Mantronix.

When I first heard "Electric Boogie", I never connected Marcia Griffiths with THAT Marcia Griffiths of the I-Threes. It was only when I learned Neville (Bunny Wailer) Livingstone had written the song that I figure it out.

Nigel & Marvin are from Trinidad, but it's close enuff.
