- What is your name? Benjamin Monroe Seeberger
- Are you named after anyone? Benjamin, after the Hebraic patriarch, and Monroe after my father and my older brother (RIP).
- What's your screename? I've had tons! Lucidorpheus, diaskeaus, chinese.fish, travelerscribe, benseeberger, seeberger, callandor01, semprebard, gmvyndel, gmaithris, etc...
- Would you name a child of yours after you? No, I don't think so. I am neither a fan, nor a critic of my name though. If my wife wanted to name a child with my name, I wouldn't object.
- If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name be? Michelle (as per info passed down from my parents).
- If you could switch names with a friend who would it be? My name is fine. It's part of who I am, after all.
- Are there any mispronounciations/typos that ppl do w/ your name constantly? Seeberger --> becomes Seaburger. Geez, that's the most annoying thing, e.v.e.r.
- Would you drop your last name if you became famous? Depends on what I was famous for. A writer? Probably. A theologian? Definitely not! A politician? Impossible...
- Basics
- Your gender: Male.
- Straight/Gay/Bi: Stra----ight.
- Single? Not sure. In my heart, no.
- If not, do you want to be? I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question, based on my previous answer.
- Birthdate: December 14th, 1980.
- Your age: 2...6. Yeah. I just had a birthday.
- Age you act: Depends. I've been told 2, and I've been told 40. Most of the time, I'd say 29.
- Age you wish you were: Sometimes I wish I were 20. Other times 31. If you're really curious, you can ask me specifically why I chose those two numbers.
- Your height: 5'11"
- Eye color: Blue. (Somebody recently told me they were green though. I would imagine they change under different light conditions.)
- Happy with it? Of course. Why shouldn't I be?
- Hair color: Blond, although popularly it's called "dirty blond" which I don't like, and sometimes it appears to be more brownish, while under the sun it appears to be actually blond.
- Happy with it? I would like blonder hair, but I'm happy with what God has given me. I just hope I can keep it (although I'm not anxious about it disappearing either).
- Lefty/righty/ambidextrous: Right. I've tried to be left, not with much success.
- Your living arrangement: I am living with a roommate right now, but in two years I'll probably be living alone.
- Your family: I've got a mother, a father, an older half-sister (just sister in my heart though), an older brother (who has passed), a grandmother (of course the others are family, but they have passed), a slew of cousins and aunts and uncles (I use the term "slew" because I would name them all, but it would take too much space here; not like by posting a survey of over 200 questions, I'm trying to conserve space, mind you... ahem...), and a dog that has passed but still heavy on my heart.
- Have any pets? I did. Hopefully I will again.
- Whats your job? I am a student.
- Piercings? No way. Why would you stick a piece of metal in your body, outside of surgery?
- Tattoos? I've fantasized about the idea, but they sag when you are older and for the most part, I'd be appealing to my juvenile side to put pictures on my body. I'd rather just write about those ideas.
- Obsessions? Books, traveling, and K.
- Addictions? Writing.
- Do you speak another language? I'm learning Chinese. In the past I've studied Arabic, Korean, Spanish, and French. In the future I'd like to learn Russian, and German, as well as those others I've mentioned.
- Have a favorite quote? "The world becomes us," which is mine. But I've overused it so much, that I've given it a rest for the moment.
- Do you have a webpage? http://cultured.fishspeaker.com (I started livejournaling in 2001, and started my webpage in 2003).
- Deep Thoughts About Life and You in it
- Do you live in the moment? No... I live in the future. Weird, huh?
- Do you consider yourself tolerant of others? I really do try. Sometimes people are so stupid though... then I only feel pity.
- Do you have any secrets? One or two, yes. What, did you think I was going to tell you?
- Do you hate yourself? No... I appreciate myself, and the way I think. If I don't, who will?
- Do you like your handwriting? No, actually. I despise it.
- Do you have any bad habits? Yeah, one or two.
- What is the compliment you get from most people? "You're really interesting."
- If a movie was made about your life, what would it be called? Dreaming Eternal.
- What's your biggest fear? To hurt those I love.
- Can you sing? Yup. Not as well as I'd like, but better than I should.
- Do you ever pretend to be someone else just to look cool? I wouldn't know where to start, even if I wanted to.
- Are you a loner? Yes and no. I love crowds, but I love quiet.
- What are your #1 priorities in life? That doesn't make any sense. How can I have more than one number one priority? So... my "#1 priorities" are to follow God with all my heart and to raise a wonderful, God-fearing family that is cultured and loving.
- If you were another person, would you be friends with you? I would try.
- Are you a daredevil? Not really no. I'm not stupid about those kinds of things. But I do enjoy thrills.
- Is there anything you fear or hate about yourself? I wish I were less abrasive. But if I was less abrasive, I would be afraid that people wouldn't actually be forced to think because of what I am. It's a conflict, always.
- Are you passive or agressive? Typically, I am passive, although I can be quite aggressive when it comes to serious issues.
- Do you have a journal? Yes, many.
- What is your greatest strength and weakness? Strength: The gift of discerning patterns; Weakness: Being undisciplined.
- If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? To be more disciplined.
- Do you think you are emotionally strong? There are times when I've been an emotional trainwreck, but I think I've had pretty good reasons.
- Is there anything you regret doing/not doing in life? Yes. Doing. And not doing. Those SUCK.
- Do you think life has been good so far? So far, yeah. Very few complaints, and a lot of thankfulness.
- What is the most important lesson you've learned from life? To not rush things, to be patient, and to trust that God has things under control and that your worries amount to nothing when given to the power of faith.
- What do you like the most about your body? The fact that I can't gain any weight is a nice benefit.
- And least? My teeth. Ugh. I've had work done on them, but I wish they were perfect.
- Do you think you are good looking? Relatively. Parts of me, anyways.
- Are you confident? I try to be.
- What is the fictional character you are most like? The mythical anima (see my list on Character Archetypes for more info).
- Are you perceived wrongly? More times than I'd like, yes. More as I get older and more confident, as strange as that seems. Or at least... it "seems" that I am perceived wrongly. It is more likely I am perceiving those perceptions wrongly.
- Do You...
- Smoke? I once smoked... candy cigarettes, at the local Devonshire Little Store. Yeah, I'm such a punk.
- Do drugs? No freaking way.
- Read the newspaper? Not really, but I would like to eventually be reading the Chinese newspaper.
- Pray? I pray everyday, all day. I try to remember more often.
- Go to church? On Sundays yes, on Thursdays I have a Bible study, but outside of that... I've really been wanting to have a devotional time in the morning, but have had a hard time waking up early enough. That's a valid prayer request, I think.
- Talk to strangers who IM you? They don't anymore, as I only IM people I know.
- Sleep with stuffed animals? I don't think I ever have (or don't remember, anyhow). I might have had a stuffed robot or something when I was younger (weird, huh).
- Take walks in the rain? Loving it!
- Talk to people even though you hate them? All of the time... it's a particular passion of mine. Though I don't "hate" anyone in that particular vein, so I guess the question is void.
- Drive? Yes, since I was 15.
- Like to drive fast? Only because I don't really like driving. I wish I could teleport.
- Would or Have You Ever?
- Liked your voice? Yes, and I do. I wish it was better trained though.
- Hurt yourself? What's the point? I'd only end up having to suffer more pain, once I actually am feeling better.
- Been out of the country? Lots of times. That's another one of my particular passions.
- Eaten something that made other people sick? Yep! And I won't lie to you... it made me sick too! But it was worth the experience (not that I would do it again, mind you).
- Been in love? Yeees.
- Done drugs? Noooooo. (Didn't I already answer this? What, does this survey think I'm stupid or something? Or this is one of those fancy intelligence tests, that tries to see if you'll change your answer when confronted with different sets of questions?)
- Gone skinny dipping? Hahaha. No. I did once go to a bath though, and had to strip in public and walk around with a towel. And my dorm in college had communal showers.
- Had a medical emergency? Nope. I've only been to the doctor twice: when I was born, and when I was given my initial shots for school.
- Had surgery? Never broken a bone, never gotten sick like that. Lucky me?
- Ran away from home? I was a happy little child.
- Played strip poker? WHAT?! Heck, I don't even like poker.
- Gotten beaten up? Yes, by an old man, of all people. Yeah, the one person I get to be beaten up by, is an old bum from San Francisco. Go figure.
- Beaten someone up? I used to try and beat my brother up just because I thought that's how brothers show their love, but he didn't go for it.
- Been picked on? Yes. It wasn't pleasant. I don't go for that kind of stuff anymore.
- Been on stage? Toooooo many times to count.
- Slept outdoors? Really fun! As long as you have a sleeping bad and no ants or bugs crawl in to sleep with you.
- Thought about suicide? Not seriously.
- Pulled an all nighter? Many times.
- If yes, what is your record? 52 hours straight.
- Gone one day without food? Yes, actually two to three days without food or drink.
- Talked on the phone all night? It's absolutely wonderful.
- Slept together with the opposite sex w/o actually having sex? *ahem*, Napped. Not slept.
- Slept all day? I've tried. But failed.
- Killed someone? Yeah, right... what a stupid question for a public survey...
- Made out with a stranger? Uh, no. No.
- Had sex with a stranger? No. No. No.
- Thought you're going crazy? Of course. Who hasn't?
- Kissed the same sex? Are you kidding? No way.
- Done anything sexual with the same sex? I take the fifth.
- Been betrayed? Once a really good friend stole an Offspring CD from me, and then lied about it. I was angry at the time, but in retrospect, that CD STUNK (it was ---terrible---) and I am glad to not have it anymore.
- Had a dream that came true? I fell in love...
- Broken the law? Driving and piracy.
- Met a famous person? The Pope.
- Have you ever killed an animal by accident? A duck.
- On purpose? Roadkill, and a really low car. No, I did not do it on purpose, but I didn't feel bad for the duck either.
- Told a secret you swore you wouldn't tell? Ugh. Yes. I hate it when that happens.
- Stolen anything? Does piracy count? If so, then yes. If not, then no.
- Been on radio/tv? Yep yep. That was fun.
- Been in a mosh-pit? Once. Never again. Oh, the stench of beer is still washing around in my brain...
- Had a nervous breakdown? I don't remember.
- Bungee jumped? Perhaps, one day. But not yet. I haven't seen the point yet.
- Had a dream that kept coming back? Yes, usually having to do with a girl that I have a crush on, and a swimming pool.
- Beliefs
- Belive in life on other planets? Sure. Why, are we special or something?
- Miracles? Yes, I've seen one or two, and experienced quite a few myself. Although miracles aren't the kinds of things that are quantifiable.
- Astrology? No, not really. It's a nice fantasy though, and interesting story-building material.
- Magic? Yes, or at least in the presence of forces beyond our knowledge.
- God? Yup.
- Satan? Not as much as God, but yes. I wouldn't say he's a horned devil who dances around with a pitchfork, but I wouldn't say he is an ambiguous force representing the darkness of our souls either. I think he's pretty well defined, in as much as you can define a force that powerful.
- Santa? Perhaps as a demon, then yes.
- Ghosts? I think they might exist.
- Luck? I believe that coincidence is never the case.
- Love at first sight? Sure, it's a perfectly human thing. But it is tricky, because first we have to get past the physical attraction, and really look underneath. That's when love at first sight fades, and we have to move into something deeper.
- Yin and yang (that good cant exist w/o bad)? Nope. I mean, I respect the idea, but I think it's hogwash.
- Witches? Yes, they exist. This is indisputable.
- Easter bunny? I believe in... the Easter Islands! That's fantastic enough for me.
- Believe its possible to remain faithful forever? Yep.
- Believe theres a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow? There's no end to a rainbow. If it weren't for the earth, the rainbow would continue down and form a sphere of colors. You can test this for yourself by driving through a desert or really dry plain when it is raining in spurts, localized in particular areas, and if you can see the sun and also see the rainclouds.
- Do you wish on stars? No, but I do wish on birthday candles. I'd like to visit stars though. Yeah, that would be cool...
- Deep Theological Questions
- Do you believe in the traditional view of Heaven and Hell? What, like clouds and hellfire? No. But I don't believe that death is our end, and I don't believe that everything is hunky dory after we die either. I do believe, however, that we can't explain it.
- Do you think God has a gender? Riiiight. Um, the creating force behind the foundation of the universe? Is a guy?! Geez, that's really self-deprecating. Not to mention insulting to all those women out there. No, I don't think so...
- Do you believe in organized religion? I believe it exists. I believe it changes over time, and it is not eternal. I believe that in one thousand years, people will still believe in God, but we may very well be worshiping by placing tin cups on our heads, while floating around in space on surfboards. Even if that were to happen, I believe it would still be as authentic as traditional worship today.
- Where do you think we go when we die? I don't believe we really go anywhere. That would assume that once we die, we go someplace material, and I guess... the smartest answer would be the ground, but because the soul seems so much bigger than that, I have no idea. We go. That's what is important.
- Friends
- Do you have any gay/lesbian friends? Yes. It's kind of weird, and sort of depressing, but I still respect and honor them.
- Who is your best friend? K. I also have best friends, and that would be Andy, Sean, Damon, and David. Huzzah.
- Who's the one person that knows most about you? Probably either my Mom, or K.
- What's the best advice that anyone has ever given to you? To be patient, and speak your mind.
- Your favourite inside joke? I don't have that many...
- Thing you're picked on most about? My temperament. But I don't get picked on anymore.
- Who's your longest known friend? Outside of my brother, Sean. He and I have been together since we were babies.
- Newest? Ed. He's a teacher here at Nankai.
- Shyest? I don't have shy friends. None that I can think of, anyways.
- Funniest? Robert. It's like he lives in this dystopic, surreal world where everything doesn't make sense.
- Sweetest? Juan immediately comes to mind, but I'm drawing a blank on people from the United States. It's weird how being in a foreign country does that to you.
- Closest? K.
- Weirdest? Damon. He doesn't seem weird at first, but he is probably one of the most unique personalities I have ever met.
- Smartest? Either Andy or David. They are brilliant and I hope someday they actually use their brains to really change society for the better.
- Ditziest? I try not to have ditzy friends. I respect them, don't get me wrong, but I have a hard time identifying with them.
- Friends you miss being close to the most? K.
- Last person you talked to online? Matt. We talked about surveys... imagine that!
- Who do you talk to most online? K. My dad.
- Who are you on the phone with most? K.
- Who do you trust most? K. My mother. My brother.
- Who listens to your problems? Usually, anyone I ask. I tend to not give them a reason to not listen.
- Who do you fight most with? Rarely anyone, although if I do fight, it's with my teachers, strange enough. I'm so worried about getting the most out of my education. I wish I didn't fight with them. I'm trying, everyday, to grow myself into not. I think I am slowly lessening up.
- Who's the nicest? Wait - what's the difference between nicest and sweetest? Because that Juan. I'm sure he'd respond with a smile to anything. He's a wonderful person to be a friend with.
- Who's the most outgoing? That would have to be Sonia. Wow.
- Who's the best singer? Either Robert or Molly here in China. My favorite singer though is K.
- Who's on your shit-list? Um... toilet paper. Yeaah. (*rolls his eyes*)
- Have you ever thought of having sex with a friend? Seriously? No. On a fancy? Of course, who hasn't? What, you think we are robots or something?
- Who's your second family? Right now, it is the Ramsey's, but I haven't seen them in awhile. I've got a lot of potentials, but I prefer, at this at the moment, to try and invest my time with Miles and Joy, when they are around.
- Do you always feel understood? No way. Most of the time not.
- Who's the loudest friend? Jodi, I think. That's not a bad thing though... she just has a loud laugh, and I think it's great.
- Do you trust others easily? I don't trust anyone, in the spirit of the question; but I also trust everyone, very easily. I think people have a right to be taken seriously, and my aim is to at least be the one person in their life who does.
- Who's house were you last at? Probably Robert's. I went there because I was meeting up with him and Dave to go to a restaurant.
- Name one person who's arms you feel safe in: K.
- Do your friends know you? I hope so. I really want them to, but I know my mind can be a bit difficult to comprehend.
- Friend that lives farthest away: Right now? Probably Richard, Jordan, or Steve.
- Love and All That
- Do you consider love a mistake? That depends on the kind of love. The kind of love that everyone should have, NO. The kind of love between a man and a woman; it only is a mistake if there isn't a promise underneath.
- What do you find romantic? Beautiful landscapes, quiet moments, profound realizations of joyful recollection.
- Turn-on? People who are real.
- Turn-off? People who are fake.
- First kiss? Yes, and it was ->sweet<-.
- If someone u had no interest in had interest in dating u how would u feel? I honestly, wouldn't care. Too bad for them... I know that's harsh, but there's probably a reason I'm not interested, and unless that changes or I change somehow, nothing is going to happen from my side.
- Do you prefer knowing someone before dating them or going Absolutely. But I wouldn't say "knowing" is equal to years and years. I became best friends with Andy in two minutes, and we're still really good friends to this day.
- Have u ever wished it was more socially acceptable 4 a girl 2 ask a guy out Yes. I hate the American cultural concept that the man has to do all of the hunting. I don't think the man shouldn't have to do anything, but I do believe it needs to be mutual.
- Have you ever been romantically attracted to someone physically unattractiv Yes. And I believe that's all I will say on that.
- Do you think the opposite sex finds you good looking? Parts of me, yes.
- What is best about the opposite sex? That they were made to be partners with us; and that I fell in love.
- What is the worst thing about the opposite sex? That I don't have a clue what they are thinking.
- What's the last present someone gave you? A shell necklace bought in Hawaii.
- Are you in love? Yes.
- Do you consider your significant other hot? More than anyone else, ever.
- Who Was the Last Person...
- That haunted you? My ex.
- You wanted to kill? Like, murder? End the life of? Geez. No one. Come on.
- That you laughed at? Myself. I try to be respectful of other people's feelings.
- That laughed at you? Probably my teacher.
- That turned you on? K.
- You went shopping with? Sonia. Or rather, was taken along.
- That broke your heart? I take the fifth.
- To disappoint you? These are not nice questions. I refuse to publicly humiliate people.
- To ask you out? Hah. Probably Helen, or Mary Ann. I can't remember clearly though. The past, the past...
- To make you cry? Like I said, I'm not sure I've cried since the 5th or 6th grade.
- To brighten up your day? Juan messaged me today and asked me how I was doing in Chinese. That brightened up my day a little. K called me a couple of days ago. I was on a high for at least a day+.
- That you thought about? Robert. He is planning on buying tickets for the Hainan retreat, and called me a short while ago to find out if I wanted to join in with the other teachers for the same plane ride.
- You saw a movie with? Robert and gang. We saw "Goodnight and Good Luck."
- You talked to on the phone? K.
- You talked to through IM/ICQ? Matt. I do believe I answered this already, though... (yes, I did, I just found the question above)
- You saw? Miles, right before he left to go get his residence certificate (he is legally married now to Joy).
- You lost? Like, lost -somewhere-? I don't believe anyone. I used to be in a choir, and we'd take boys around to different cities in Europe, but we always kept a close eye on them...
- Right This Moment...
- Are you going out? I don't know...
- Will it be with your significant other? I really hope so.
- Or some random person? I really really hope not.
- What are you wearing right now? Long-johns, two pairs of socks, black slacks.
- Body part you're touching right now: Forehead.
- What are you worried about right now? That I've taken up too much time writing this survey and I won't be able to find any decent food at the cafeteria, and that I won't have enough time to finish my newsletter before tomorrow.
- What book are you reading? Blood Meridian, The Wizard, The Language of Night, Kafka on the Shore, and Letters Between Two.
- What's on your mousepad? I don't have one. Just a desk...
- Use 5 words to describe how you're feeling: 1)Wishful, 2)Contemplative, 3)Reminiscent, 4)Hungry, 5)Hopeful.
- Are you bored? Not right now, no. I'm almost done with this thing! How can I be?
- Are you tired? Not really. I should have taken a nap today, though, because I really worked myself to the bone in class and on my bike. It'll catch up with me later.
- Are you talking to anyone online? Not right now. I was talking with Matt, but he is at a LAN party right now, so he is busy doing what one does at those, fragging demons, casting spells, solving mysteries... who knows...
- Are you talking to anyone on the phone? No. I was talking with Juan awhile ago, because I bought him a map at the local foreign language bookstore, and he told me he could come by at 9pm to pick it up.
- Are you lonely or content? A bit lonely. I try to be content.
- Are you listening to music? No. It's a good idea though. Maybe I'll put on something.
