Author Comments:
As you'd notice, I haven't read many of the popular novels such as "the Stand" or "the Shining". That's because I saw the films first and they creeped the living heck out of me. Scary books are usually worse than scary movies for me, so I said nevermind for now. :-p
Bold means it's a favorite.
Cloned From:

I strongly recommend It . There's a main character who's black - if that makes a difference - and one who's female.
I read It, actually. It was a while ago, like when I was 9 or 10. :-p I barely even remember it, but I know I read it before I saw the movie!
For me, It is his best novel. The plot is so cleverly constructed and the children's episodes are so vivid and memorable.
Btw, what do you think of the movie/mini-series. I have it on DVD (extra scenes).
I barely remember that also. I saw it when I was a kid too, and I remember being scared for weeks afterwards!
The Shining is a terrific novel, but you're right: It's even creepier than Kubrick's excellent movie.
As for Misery, the book is by far superior to the film, and at times unbearably thrilling.
The Stand is hard stuff too. But for some reason I stopped reading somewhere in the middle, and never finished it. Unfortunately.
I highly recommend you one of his best and most underrated novels, Desperation. Once you'll have read it, you'll also want to check out the parallel novel Regulators King published under his pseudonym Richard Bachman.
I still have Black House unread on my book shelf. Would you recommend it?
I do recommend reading Black House. It isn't one of his best, but it's still pretty chilling. I'll add Desperation to the list of King novels I need to read too!
