I'm interested in what you can tell us about Die Chronik des Films, which I'm guessing translates as The Chronicle of Films rather than Chronic, but I could be wrong. The book was never translated into English, was it?

I think you are right concerning:
1. the English title
2. the English translation of the book, because it was published by a German publishing house and so it's not very probable that the book is available in English.
P.S.: !!!The book is not up-to-date.!!! It 'goes' from 1895 to 1993. I don't know if there is a new edition.

'Masterpiece' - East of Eden and Of Mice and Men (John Steinbeck): I've just bumped both of these high(er) up on my list of books to read (early next year) - they are both on my shelf so far unread (part of a batch of quality hardbacks that I bought last year).

Yes, they are absolutely great. At the moment I'm reading 'The Grapes of Wrath'. I think that this book is probably a hot candidate for 'Masterpiece'.

Aha ! It was The Grapes of Wrath that I have on my shelf that was part of the batch instead. I don't have East of Eden on my shelf at all - my error.

Actually, I have read Of Mice and Men before, but it was before I learned how to enjoy a good book and really started to appreciate reading. Whilst I do remember some of it (after 35 years), at the time it was a chore - homework set by a teacher at school. I certainly do need to re-read it.

I am glad someone liked The Grapes of Wrath. I am struggling through it right now. When does it shift into gear? I heard it could take me until midway to get drawn into the story.

In the first half the story is actually a little slow, but the more you read the better the book becomes. It is a masterpiece. Be obstinate and go on! Later, you won't repent. :)
