I see that you are not a huge fan of Martin Scorsese.
I have actually only seen 3 of these films. Here my thoughts on them:
- Goodfellas- Disappointing, overlong, repetitive, tedious and overrated. D -
- Taxi Driver- A pure masterpiece. Amazing!!! De Niro in his best role. A +
- Raging Bull- Brilliant A
yeah, i just don't like the look to some of his movies. i thought Raging Bull was by far the worst. it was the most boring film ive ever seen. Goodfellas i liked, Taxi Driver also good but all in all i find his movies long and depressive
Meantime, I have watched many (well, 5) of his films, and I liked all of them:
The Aviator --> great biopic, superbly acted. A-
After Hours --> after Taxi Driver Marty's best! A
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore --> very good, Ellen Burstyn even got an Oscar for her amazing performance. B+
Who's That Knocking at My Door? --> his first film, very good again. B+
New York, New York --> I liked this, but it is not his best. B
P.S.: I have even changed my mind on Goodfellas ( --> B).
You should really give him another chance.
looks like i'll have some catching up too do! i mean i'm not someone who judges people (far from it) so i'm willing to give M.Scorsese another chance. i'll probably start by watching "The Aviator" and i still want to see "Mean Streets".
Probably you'd also enjoy Scorsese's After Hours.
Oh, and do rewatch Taxi Driver. It is astonishing.
is that the thriller / comedy one? that might be some fun, i'll check it out. hopefuly it won't be as dull as his other films i've seen. (mainly Taxi Driver and Raging Bull)
Taxi Driver is in need of a rewatch, true. i think what the issue with Taxi Driver is that when i first watched it, i only watched it because it was meant to be a "cool" "clut" movie and i didn'tt really get it's meaning. but i do have it on dvd, bought it becuase it was only £5.99 on sale and i bought it for that very reason future rewatches when i was ready. And now i've extended my film knowledge i think i'm ready to tackle Taxi Driver again!
At the moment I'm reading a great book about Scorsese and his films, with a very detailed interpretation of Taxi Driver (around 25 pages!). There are really many things I had overseen. For instance, Scorsese appears twice in the movie. Once in the cab, OK, that is obvious. But there is another (key) scene where you can see him. But I won't tell you now. Try to find him.
cool, theres a chance i'll watch it tonight so I'll keep my eye out for it!
I'm also planning on renting the Special Edition of Mean Streets when it comes out.
Yesterday, I rewatched Raging Bull. Perfect! Man, you should really give this masterpiece another chance.
P.S.: Sth. horrible has happened: They won't show Midnight Cowboy. It has been cancelled! :( :(
yeah maybe i should give Raging Bull enough chance, eh? maybe, it may not be all bad. i just can't get over how boring i found it
Dang! too bad about midnight cowboy. it's funny you should mention it because it was on tv over here last week, i rewatched it and still as strong as ever. i do hope you get a chance to see it one day. are you part of one of those internet rental things? that may help with accessing the movie.
No, I'm not. But I could once try to convince my librarian to buy the film.
lol that might not be such a bad idea! :-)
Yeah, if I'll ever get the chance to meet him in a good mood...
