The quintessential "The Smiths" (in order of favor & IMO)

Tags:
  1. I Know It's Over-I'm crazy about the lyrics of this song.
I sing with it from beginning to end.
Feel sorry for my pets and family for having to listen.
    I've a very melodramatic delivery.
  2. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
-How anyone can resist the lyrics
of this one is beyond me.

    "And if a double-decker bus
    crashes into us,
    to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die.
    "

O-k! So much for healthy relationships...
but God I remember feeling this way as a teen.
  3. How Soon Is Now?-A classic. No, it's not just from Charmed!
Sheesh. Just a great song altogether. A song of my youth.
Also off of the first Smiths album I ever owned...
    Meat Is Murder
  4. Girlfriend In A Coma-Just plain odd. What a choice
of topics. I was in college when
    this came out.
  5. Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want-A great tune
altogether. I've said this line many times
in my head through the years. Rather I made it
a mantra for quite awhile. Love it.
Also from a popular movie soundtrack.
  6. The Boy With A Thorn In His Side-The first Smith's song
I ever heard. I puzzled over the meaning
in my more naive days. That didn't last long.
  7. Cemetary Gates-From the same The Queen Is Dead album
as the previous...one of their bests in my opinion.
I love to listen to this one. It was one
of the first I heard from them.
  8. Vicar In a Tutu-Wow, this one could make
my list just on merit of the title alone.
What a visual. But it's a great song
    to boot.
  9. Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others-Yes, aren't they?
The clever lyric work is nice in this.
    Fully enjoyable for me.
Repetition works, in so many instances.
    This is no exception.

This was a tremendous band.

I don't think they are mentioned

often enough these days.

I am so glad to see Some Girls on here. So many Smiths fans hate that song. I adore it.

Great list!

Shalom, y'all!

They hate the song? *Truly shocked* I can't imagine!

Yeah, it sorta throws me for a loop as well, but many Smith fans deride it as, "that silly little tune on the end of that terrific album." Me, I find the odd, ominous tone married to vague, seemingly innocent lyrics thoroughly absorbing and addictive.

We know better... :)

"How Soon is Now" is a great song! In fact, it is included in the current movie "Closer" and is a perfect fit for the scene in the movie.

It is a fabulous track, to be sure.
I've not seen "Closer" yet, how is it?

I did not like it....but apparently many others do...including the critics. It is certainly an acquired taste!

Great list !
