Every year we're treated to an assortment of themed nights, many based on a guest judge... I'm sorry, but a night based on the songs of Olivia Newton-John? Ashford and Simpson? I love American Idol, but can they really not do any better than that? Anyway, here's some cool ideas, some of which seem possible and some of which are absolute fantasies. Basically these are all artists or genres with dozens of excellent songs that could actually be reinterpreted or reworked into the American Idol format in a fun and interesting way and would be challenging for the contestants to adapt to. (As opposed to another night of sappy unoriginal Diane Warren ballads).
