Pink Floyd

  1. Pink Floyd are an English rock band that initially earned recognition for their psychedelic rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. They are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art, and elaborate live shows. One of rock music's most successful acts, the group have sold an estimated 74.5 million albums in the United States alone.[5]
  2. Pink Floyd had moderate mainstream success and were one of the most popular bands in the London underground music scene in the late 1960s as a psychedelic band led by Syd Barrett; however, Barrett's erratic behaviour eventually forced his colleagues to replace him with guitarist and singer David Gilmour. After Barrett's departure, singer and bass player Roger Waters gradually became the dominant and driving force in the mid-1970s, until his eventual departure from the group in 1985. The band recorded several albums, achieving worldwide success with The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and The Wall (1979). In 1985, Waters declared Pink Floyd defunct, but the remaining members, led by Gilmour, sued by Waters for rights to the name; they continued recording and touring as Pink Floyd and enjoyed commercial success with A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994), eventually reaching a settlement with Waters over the use of the name.
  3. Waters performed with the band for the first time in 24 years on July 2, 2005 at the London Live 8 concert, playing to Pink Floyd's largest audience ever.
  4. Pink Floyd have influenced rock music artists of the 1970s such as David Bowie[6], Genesis and Yes[7]; and various modern artists such as Dream Theater[8], Tool[9], Radiohead[10], Porcupine Tree[11] and The Orb

My favourite tracks are probably:

Astronomy Domine
One Of These Days

I saw them live once at one of the Reading festivals I think in the late 1970s.

Very interesting choice. Did you keep the ticket stubs from the Reading Festival?

I certainly keep ticket stubs nowadays, but not then unfotunately.

Hi, I hope this is right. I JUST started here and happened across your Pink Floyd list. I noticed a glaring omission (to me anyway). You really need to get Live at Pompeii. It was done about the time of Echoes and is fantastic. You can buy it on DVD now. Which is very cool. I've had it on old VHS tapes for so long I couldn't play them anymore.
It's a great video and even better music.

Of course, you most likely know all about it already!

The list was only of CD's not DVD's of Pink Floyd. Though this is on a bootleg Cd I don't have it , the film of course is a must and I look forward to the DVD as I haven't seen it here yet. Like you I had the video. Now that it is coming on DVD there will be no need to record the video to DVD.

What's your favourite Pink Floyd album? Do you prefer the earlier Psychedelic/Experimental stuff more or the more mainstream ones?

The earlier ones are very special in that it was the time I was growing up but other than for that reason I enjoy very much all of their catalog.
