Songs listed by composer, not performer (though the best rendition of a song is not always by the composer).

I think the band The Animals sang House of The Rising Sun. You can always look songs up on www.ubl.com if you need to find origins!

The Animals sang the most popular version of House of the Rising Sun, but they did not write it. House of the Rising Sun is a traditional piece.

I have some similar and differant tastes to you. It seems all of your near-perfect songs for you seem to be very simple tunes. Understandable, seeing as that is sometimes the hardest to do and its always the easiest to remember. I would Dvorak 9th symphony would be another one for you're more classical side, but it doesn't seem to be in your taste. But Hey, check out MasterSmurf's content, he's got a list sort of like this one. Its like Stand-out songs of the greats or something like that.

This list is NOT AT ALL indicative of my tastes. It is an attempt by me to distance myself from popular, well-recieved, long-lasting, (and some favorite) songs to analyze their 'closeness to perfection.'

Simple tunes are indeed difficult and easiest to remember, but mostly I find that lengthy, comlicated, convoluted songs tend to have at least one small weak part that some simpler tunes do not suffer from.

I'll give Dvorak's 9th a listen.

I always make a case for "Paranoid Android" By Radiohead its mellow, yet at the same time unerving and haunting!!

A good song to be sure, but in my opinion, a bit too convoluted and inconsistent to make this list.

Been listening to Dvorak's 9th quite a bit recently. Awesome stuff. Thanks for recommending it.

I'm pleased to see such a list here. No attempts to be "cool", just a comprehensive list of perfect songs. And some awesome choices. Good 'un!

ah, you're makin' me blush

Dancing Queen by ABBA. Surely the perfect, well-crafted, yet simple and definitive pop song. Not that "pop" is a derogatory term.

ah yes

i also make a case for "Stand By Me" By Ben E King

yes, I agree. Good choice!

Let's get it on by Marvin Gaye, and Paint it black by Rolling Stones.
