Overrated Movies

- Manhattan (1979) - Don't get me wrong. I love Woody Allen. I loved "Sleeper", "Zelig", "Bananas", "Hannah and Her Sisters", "Bullets Over Broadway", "Play It Again, Sam", "Annie Hall", and "Take the Money an Run", to name a few (heh). But "Manhattan"...I don't understand its appeal. The characters are not particularly likable, and most are selfish. The plot is predictable, and the action of the movie is (sorry) awful! I mean, come on, most of the time it's two people walking down the street talking, or sitting in a bar talking; sometimes it was two people talking under a black screen! Euch.
- The Accidental Tourist (1988) - Everything here is so dull and insipid. Very rarely do the characters raise their voices above 3 decibels, and they take their time doing everything. Plus, the characters are not believable; at one point, a woman (whose name I forget) and a man (ditto) have been subtly flirting for a bit. Then the woman accidentally undercooks a turkey. When the woman's brother points out that the turkey may be poisonous, the woman has a 4-decibel fit, saying, "I know what this is about! You don't want (man's name) to fall in love with me!" Then she runs (well, actually strolls) off crying. Does anyone think people actually act like this? Geena Davis is even worse.
- Citizen Kane (1941) - Well, not that I didn't love this movie. But, with a title like "Greatest Movie Ever"...yeah, I'd say it's overrated.
- The Heartbreak Kid (1972) - This is possibly the most predictable movie ever made. I love Neil Simon, but he has done much better than this boring tripe. The ending is especially weak.
- Osmosis Jones (2001) - The only thing more shocking than how bad this movie was is that some critics actually gave it good reviews. So many talented stars did voices for this movie. So much wasted talent. While there were some imaginitive sight gags, the rest of the movie was completely unfunny, and the characters, while they were cells in a human body, still manages to be cliche.
- Meet the Parents (2000) - I've seen "There's Something About Mary", "Kingpin", "Me, Myself, and Irene", "Scary Movie", and "40 Days and 40 Nights"...but "Meet the Parents" is the only movie where the crudeness of the humor made me like the movie less. I suppose if bodily fluids are being confused with hair gel, everything's OK, but MTP was just: Ben Stiller gruesomely injures someone or destroys something emotionally priceless. Repeat this scene 20 times.
- Moulin Rouge (2001) - I liked the sheer energy of this movie, and I liked the music. I didn't mind the frenzied pace like some people. However, the substance of the movie is pure crap. The story is so cliche, sappy, and overdone. The acting leaves something to be desired. Behind all the music, energy, and cinematography, what makes this movie any different from any other chick flick?
- The Great Race (1965) - I actually feel bad blasting this movie, because it's so innocently harmless. I know a lot of people like this movie. However, I didn't. There are a lot of good things here: like "Moulin Rouge", I liked the score, the costumes, the energy, the beautiful scenery, the beautiful Natalie Wood. I also like many of the actors, and the director. But this movie is just not funny. It reminds me of one of those 7-minute Warner Bros. cartoon shorts...stretched out to 2 and a half hours. Actually, I think Bugs and Elmer do this schtick BETTER than "The Great Race." I think maybe I'm missing something about this movie because of its sheer popularity. Anyone wanna clue me in?
- Election / The French Connection - Eh, I'm too lazy to comment on these again. Jim wrote something about these movies before, and I agreed with him. Look it up for yourself if you care that much.
- Rushmore (1998) - Perhaps it's just too quirky for me, but I rarely laughed at this movie. Bill Murray's talent is completely wasted. I just couldn't identify with anyone in the movie, I suppose.
- Shampoo (1975) - Good Lord, this movie is boring. I couldn't care less about any of the despicable characters and their robotic sex scenes. It's also very unfunny.
- Caddyshack (1980) - I liked this movie. I didn't love it. I don't think it's one of the funniest movies ever, or even one of the top 10 comedies of the 80's (see my Funniest Movies of the 80's list). But some people really blow this movie way out of proportion. Especially on the IMDB comedy boards - I've heard multiple posts on how "Caddyshack" is the funniest movie ever. It's not.

I didn't include the following movies on purpose (because I think they deserve their reputations): Forrest Gump, The Matrix, The Man Who Wasn't There

I would definitly have to add to your list Chicago... which is the most avarage movie ever made
