Oscars: "Best Pictures" That Deserved It

I tried to hold this list at ten, so by no means is this every film I believe deserved its "Best Picture." I stayed away from some obvious ones (Ben-Hur, the Godfathers) in order to include a few lesser knowns...








I have a question about these "Deserve It" lists. Does this mean that compared to the other nominees it deserved it? Or that it was the best of the whole year regardless of who the nominees were?
Well, during some of these years there may have films nominated (or not) that matched these selections, but in my opinion none surpassed them. I think these movies are ones that have stood the test on time (or will) and the Academy can be proud that they honored them...
