You forgot English Patient/Fargo.

I forgot to mention Braveheart/Babe, Titanic/anything, Shakespeare in Love/Saving Private Ryan, and American Beauty/Being John Malkovich (I know it wasn't nominated, but it should have been).

the year braveheart won maybe casino should have got the nod.I agree that Being John Malkovich was the best film of 99', but American Beauty seemes to be a worthy winner. Its not as bad of a mistake as 1976 was thats for sure.

Yeah, Citizen Kane, A Streetcar Named Desire, Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff, Bonnie and Clyde, and Taxi Driver all jump out as films that definitely should have won. Of course, at the same time, you can almost always see exactly why a certain film won: Rocky's "little guy triumphs over adversity" gets to the academy voters every time...

Johnny Waco

True Johnny, but it shouldnt be that way, dont you agree.I mean its supposed to be the best picture right?

While I agree that Taxi Driver is the better film over Rocky, I also believe Rocky is at least as strong of a win as American Beauty. It was not the strongest of its year, but it was a very good film, with a gritty humanity and a realism missing from parts 2 onward. Has everybody confused this excellent original with its numerous, sorry sequels?

Shalom, y'all!

I dont know. The original Rocky is great. It stands at the summit of the Rocky films with all others looking up. However, Rocky needs a telescope to see how high Taxi Driver is above it.

I'm a heretic, I know, but I'm not sure Taxi Driver floats quite THAT high above Rocky. MHO, of course...

Night and day brother. Night and day. My own opinion of course.
