Author Comments:
Here are what I think will win. Granted, I haven't seen a good portion of these films, so take my predictions with a grain of salt.
I omitted stupid categories with which I'm not familiar, like Best Documentary Short Subject.
Cloned From:

So what's the difference between a dark horse and a light horse ("brightness", yeah yeah, haw haw). Does it reflect how long a shot they are, or how you'll feel about it if they pull the upset?
I originally explained this in my Comments section but deleted it for the purposes of mystery. But I guess my joke was too obscure or confusing. Oh well.
Anyway, when I predicted a pretty conventional, predictable choice winning, I also suggested a "dark horse", another nominee with a good chance of winning, which would indicate somewhat of an upset. When I predicted an upset, I also suggested a "light horse": the more conventional choice, which also has a good chance of winning - in fact, maybe a better choice, but if I predicted all the conventional choices, this just wouldn't be fun.
Oh, and the neutral-colored horse was just a joke to mean that I'm not really sure which choice is more conventional.

It just occurred to me that I am woefully underqualified to predict the Oscars this year. In any given category, I have never seen the majority of the films nominated (so, always 2 out of 5 or less, or 1 out of 3 or less), and for many categories, I haven't seen any nominated films. The ONLY exception is Best Director where I have seen "City of God", "Lost in Translation", and "Mystic River."
I'm not sure exactly what that says about my taste or about the nominated films, but I'm sure it's something...
Well, that was easily the most soporific Oscar ceremony I've ever seen. Really, I can't remember a time where there was such a distinct lack of upsets. I was 15 for 21 here, and my incorrect 6 were the times I guessed dark horse nominees (except maybe "Capturing the Friedmans", which I gradually realized had about an equal chance of winning as "Fog of War", but I never felt like changing here).
I liked having Billy Crystal back, but he couldn't save this Oscar ceremony. So disappointing, especially after those really interesting nominee choices.
I mean, come on. "Return of the King" wins Best Adapted Screenplay? The SCREENPLAY??? Gimme a break.
I think I am in a distinct minority when I say I will be glad that no "Lord of the Rings" film will be winning anything in the 2005 Oscars.
Yeah, ROTK screenplay: WTF! I was surprised it even got nominated. I admire Jackson and company's attempt to adapt the books, but the only way to do it is really, really messily, and that's how it was done. Totally undeserving.
