I would also mention Giamatti's even more bizarre snubbing for Sideways, a film the academy nominated two other actors from. His exclusion from the Oscars was nearly cruel.

Yeah, I looked at Giamatti in a lenghty clip of Sideways, and thought, how was he NOT even nominated? However, I haven't seen the whole film, so until I do honestly see all of it, I can't make a 'nod' for them. And Downey not getting nominated for his turn as Avery, for Best Supporting, just disappoints me. It's not a total loss since he's cleared his drug habit and he's been given an intriguing couple roles. Downey's always going to be an indie/cult film darling, so it's not a big deal loss.

What about Paul Dano in There Will Be Blood? That was an excellent performance.

Haven't seen the film yet. Perhaps when I see it and surmise it for myself, I will add him.
