surely EDM albums? I see no ambient =P

um...the orb is ambient

I don't even know what EDM means, to tell you the truth.

EDM is "Electronic Dance Music" so that's basically all Hardcore, House, Trance, Jungle, Minimal, Break-beat, Ambient Dance etc. Downtempo, Ambient, Experimental, Industrial are not normally counted as EDM. Electronic music encompasses all of these genres.

We didn't call it EDM in the "old days." Personally I think it's a dumb name, and so is "electronica."

Well it's been classified since. The "Minimal" scene at the moment is evolving so fast at the moment no-one knows what to call it, so they classify all of it as Minimal, but later on when it's mostly all been made, they can catergorise it. No-one really calls it electronica, apart from the idiotic media.

I knew what EDM stood for, I just think it's a retarded term. The term 'Minimal' has been completely bastardized as well.

Minimalism was the 60s/70s scholarly composer orientated music made by the likes of Steve Reich, Terry Riley. Minimal is simply the glitchy, melodic techno, abrasive minimal trancey style that is being made on labels like Kompakt and made by people like Holden. I do agree with you though, but that genre name will most likely stick to it.
I'm intrigued, why do you think it's retarded? It seems to me to suffice as a term describing electronic dance music.

First of all, the original minimal, that became popluar around 1997 was not melodic at all. If you think Holden invented minimal, or is a minimal innovator, you're way off. He actually has very little to do with the original minimal style. People like Richie Hawtin come to mind when I think of minimal.

ALso, I think it should all be called "techno."

Yeah he makes current minimal, the original Minimal was Minimal Techno, I am familiar with it, people like Richie Hawtin & Michael Mayer. It was the precursor to true Minimal achieved by Ahril Brikha in Groove La Chord, which is basically one of the first true minimal songs. And James Holden's "Post Progressive" sound as I have called it, has been called by others as Melodic Techno, which is fair enough.
I agree Techno paved the way for Minimal, but it's so unique now, and features both trance and house, it might as well be its own genre.

Nice list yourself. Yes, we do share a lot of the same albums.

Brown Album is also my favourite by Orbital, a great cd. Which is your favourite song off the album?

I guess I like the usual suspects, Haclyon, Lush 3-1, and Impact. I like to listen to the whole album from start to finish though, for the full impact.

Remind is mine, a truly great track. Though the others I have to agree with you on, are really good. Yeah, it's all good, though the weird intro and outro tracks aren't for me personally.

I just bought Orbital Live at Glastonbury. I highly recommend it. "Remind" is on there.
