My Ranking of Kevin Smith Movies

- 1. Mallrats - I know the critics panned it...Shannen Doherty sucks...but Brodie (Jason Lee) more than makes up for some of the weaker acting from Jason London...What's not to like about Mallrats??? It's got a 3 nippled fortune reader, Claire Forlani, and Jay and Silent Bob at their finest. Sure, the plot is weak, but I was laughing throughout and still do each time I watch it.
- 2. Chasing Amy - A close second. Another great performance from Jason Lee as the whiny sidekick, Banky...Ben Affleck is believable in his personal struggles and Joey Lauren Adams was a great pick as Fingercuffs. I enjoy the movie in its lighter moments, but even the serious scenes are good.
- 3. Dogma - A hilarious look at faith and the church. While the two previous movies were more comedy, Dogma does drive a point home and make you think, all the while making you laugh with excellent comedic perfomances from Alan Rickman (as Gabriel), Chris Rock, George Carlin, and of course a larger heroic role for Kevin SMith and Jason Mewes as Jay and Silent Bob...
- 4. Clerks - Definitely not a bad movie...just low budget and sometimes poorly acted. A lot of times they appear to be reading the script...Plus there are no babes in it...no Jason Lee either...only Jay and Silent Bob's introduction is important.

Hmm. Mallrats is actually my least favorite I think only in that it was funny the first time but hasn't held up to repeated watching like some of the others. I will admit to only having seen Clerks once though.
hey man,
great list... i love k.smith's films, but i would actually list my favorites are probably as follows...
1. clerks
2. mallrats or dogma
3. chasing amy
Hey, great list! I share your fondness for Jason Lee. He really is wonderful in Smith's films (I think they probably work very well together). While I don't share your opinion about Chasing Amy (in which I found Affleck to be whiny, thick-headed and thoroughly unsympathetic), I think your assessments are bang on. FYI - I heard a rumour that a Jay & Silent Bob movie (in which they actually star) is coming out. That's what I heard from a buddy of mine, but he could have been gargling the bong water. Well, I hope it's true, anyway.
Hey, well it is true...View Askew 5: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is the name of the film. They are bringing back all the old characters from the other movies as well...like Ben Affleck as Holden from Chasing Amy, Jason Lee as Brodie, and it even says Chris Rock will be in it. If you want to know more about it you should check out www.imdb.com and search for it.
"Coming Attractions" is a great site for scoops on pre-releases too. Here's the Jay and Silent Bob link.
