How long have you been a member? What plan are you signed up for (how many movies can you have out at once)? What did you think of The Tao of Steve?
Jim, coming up this June it will be a year. I'm signed up for the 4 movie plan. The Tao of Steve is a very solid movie. Nothing fancy happens but the script is really strong and fun to watch, not to mention a little though provoking.
As a side note I received my first 4 movies from them, the 4 at the bottom of the list, on June 15th of 2000. Also let's say my thoughtput could be much higher. Some of these titles I kept close to a month. Yuck!
Apparently there's a new online DVD Rental service on the block called DVD Overnight. I personally don't like their pricing scheme as much as NetFlix' but I thought I'd give you a head's up...
I've been enjoying RentMyDVD. It's hard to compare it with NetFlix since I had a 3-movie plan with NetFlix and a 4-movie plan with RentMyDVD. But the turnaround time does feel faster, probably owing to RentMyDVD's east coast distribution center. Neither is ideal. NetFlix has a nicer interface. RentMyDVD gives me more hope that I'll actually receive a high-demand movie once in awhile.
Jim as a fellow East Coaster, I thought it was my duty to let you know Netflix has a new Worcester Mass Distribution center and it is now lightning fast. I returned a movie on Monday and got its replacement today (wednesday) Of course I am still running into availability issues. Those issues are probably made worse if they have split up their inventory to both coasts.
Wow, pretty nice of them to set it up in MA, of all states! :-) Hey, would you be willing to e-mail me a cut-and-paste of your current Netflix queue? I'd like to see an availability sampling. No problem if you'd rather not.
I just did a few Usenet searches on Google, and I'm guessing that they are doing a test rollout of Worcester at the moment. My guess is based on two things: First, I can't find any announcement from Netflix about this change, and you'd think they'd be trumpeting it. Second, a poster from Maryland says they are still getting envelopes with San Jose return addresses, so Worcester clearly isn't servicing everything east of the Mississippi yet. It'll be interesting to see how well this distribution center performs once it's fully deployed. If they can maintain the two-day turnaround for MA customers I'll definitely switch. That is a movie per day with the 3-out plan, which would be cheaper AND faster than the RentMyDVD 4-out plan. Please keep me posted!
So somebody else rented the DVD for Anatomy from NetFlix! What did you think? While not great, the film is a fairly good little thriller, and the DVD is a quite a treat with the commentaries.
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
Damn, I never even tried the commentaries. To tell you the truth I hardly remember anything about this movie. I rated it a 5/10 on IMDB. The whole reason I rented it was for Franka. I barely recall it being passable thriller fare which I thought was going to be much better based on the trailer.
i don't know how long it's been since you watched it--but what did you think of venus beauty institute? (yours is the only list on which it appeared, believe it or not.) i rented it because i loved audrey tatou in amelie so much. of course, she didn't play a very big role but there are plenty of other great reasons to enjoy this flick i thought. i especially loved the use of repeated sounds--like the chime for opening and closing of the shop door and also the noisy buzz of her jealousy. i must say, though, the ending left me with a few unanswered questions. i'd love to hear your thoughts on it, k?
