  • Fleetwood Mac - Rumours (1977) ~ If my memory serves me right this is one of the first LPs I ever purchased with my own money.

  • Van Halen - "And the Cradle Will Rock..." b/w "Could This Be Magic?" (1980) ~ The first Van Halen in any form that I ever purchased. The A-side was popular radio fare but I think the B-side resonated more with me insofar as how big a Van Halen fan I would eventually become.

  • Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome (1984) ~ At the time I considered this my first "alternative" album purchase. Although in retrospect it probably wasn't that alternative.

  • The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987) ~ The first CD I ever bought. I didn't even own a CD player but one of my roomates did.
  • The Cure - Staring at the Sea: The Singles (1986) ~ The second CD I ever bought.

  • Luscious Jackson with Ben Harper ~ Live show at Staches. I hadn't heard of Ben Harper until that night. Luscious Jackson was touring for Natural Ingredients and Ben Harper was touring for his first album. I get 3 out of 4 Jacksons to autograph my CD sleeve. 1 of them wanted nothing to do with us. The guitar player, who looks like Sarah Silverman in retrospect, thought I was obnoxious, most likely because I had a little too much to drink. Ben Harper signed my ticket stub and chatted for a but. He seemed like a very cool guy and just pleased by how much people enjoyed his 1/2 of the show.

  • Tenacious D with Hometown Heroes and X-Rated Cowboys ~ Live show at Promowest Pavilion. The first and last concert I ever went to with my wife. The first and last show I've ever been to at Promowest Pavilion. I imagine I'll see another show there again some day but I doubt if my wife will be with me. An incredibly uncomfortable place to watch live music. There's absolutely no place to sit in there except for 2 rows of VIP seating that security guards like the Hope diamond. There 1 public seat in the whole place by one of the upstairs bars. Other than the poor venue Tenacious D was quite good. The show was all acoustic, like their performances on HBO, but I thought they may have had some electric given the album. They did a great Lynyrd Skynyrd cover song but I can't remember what song it was any more.
