My First Day of Launch Radio

  • Actually, I listened to some other songs before this, but I didn't keep track, and I don't remember all of them. Some song by Prince played, Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady", a live version of the Goo Goo Dolls' "Give a Little Bit", Aretha Franklin's "You Are My Sunshine", and a couple others. Oh, and one John Coltrane song came on, but it was 20 minutes long, so I skipped it.

  • Anyway, here's the official list:
  • 1. Golden Earring – Radar Love (Never heard this one before, even though AMG tells me it's a pretty big hit.)
  • 2. Louis Armstrong – Just One of Those Things
  • 3. XTC – Generals and Majors
  • 4. Al Green – Tired of Being Alone
  • 5. Tom Petty – Refugee
  • 6. Eric Clapton – Layla
  • 7. Creedence Clearwater Revival – Bad Moon Rising
  • 8. Duke Ellington – Poetic Commentary A
  • 9. Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl
  • 10. The Black Crowes – Hard to Handle
  • 11. James Taylor – Rock ‘n’ Roll Is Music Now
  • 12. Joe Walsh – All Night Long
  • 13. Green Day – Holiday
  • 14. Stone Temple Pilots – Army Ants
  • 15. Massive Attack – Angel
  • 16. The White Stripes – There’s No Home for You Here
  • 17. The Moody Blues – Nights in White Satin (I've actually never heard the non-symphonic version of this song before.)
  • 18. Miles Davis – Django
  • 19. The Rolling Stones – Rock Me, Baby (live)
  • 20. John Mayer – Comfortable
  • 21. The Cure – 10:15 Saturday Night (live)
  • 22. Guns n Roses – Welcome to the Jungle (I skipped this one. It's not the worst song I heard today, but it was the worst song I've already heard before.)
  • 23. Fleetwood Mac – Silver Springs
  • 24. Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Takin’ Care of Business
  • 25. The Doors – Land Ho!
  • 26. New Order – Krafty (radio edit)
  • 27. Nickelback – Someday (Ugh.)
  • 28. The Smiths – The Boy With the Thorn in His Side
  • 29. REM – Radio Free Europe
  • 30. The Strokes – Barely Legal (Modern Age version)
  • 31. Led Zeppelin – Whole Lotta Love (BBC sessions version)
  • 32. Judas Priest – The Ripper
  • 33. XTC – Love at First Sight (You can see how highly I rated "Generals and Majors.")
  • 34. Don Henley – Boys of Summer (I had only heard some emo cover of this song that my friend likes. I never even knew it was a cover until I heard this original version.)
  • 35. The Grateful Dead – Nobody’s Spoonful Jam (I skipped this one too. I wasn't in the mood for a ten-minute jam.)
  • 36. Bjork – It’s In Our Hands (Arcade Mix)
  • 37. Van Halen – Right Now
  • 38. Todd Rundgren – Beloved Infidel (Much as I love Something/Anything?, something tells me I should stay away from Rundgren's 90s work.)
  • 39. Elton John – Freaks in Love
  • 40. Foreigner – Cold As Ice
  • 41. Alanis Morissette – So-Called Chaos
  • 42. Metallica – Until It Sleeps (live)
  • 43. ZZ Top – Gimme All Your Lovin’
  • 44. Elvis Costello – The Delivery Man
  • 45. Bad Company – Feel Like Makin’ Love
  • 46. Pearl Jam – Daughter
  • 47. Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5

  • Then my roommate told me that Launch also had oodles of music videos. So then I watched the following music videos:
  • 1. The Strokes – Hard to Explain
  • 2. REM – Losing My Religion
  • 3. U2 – The Fly
  • 4. Barenaked Ladies – Testing 1, 2, 3
  • 5. They Might Be Giants – They’ll Need a Crane
  • 6. The White Stripes – Fell in Love With a Girl
  • 7. Franz Ferdinand – Take Me Out
  • 8. Modest Mouse – Float On
  • 9. The Flaming Lips – She Don’t Use Jelly
  • 10. Pavement – Cut Your Hair (HILARIOUS)
  • 11. Nirvana – Lithium (Is it just me or do all Nirvana videos look alike?)
  • 12. Madonna – Justify My Love (I was hoping that her sexiest song translates to her sexiest video. It was pretty hot, but there was also some pretty f**ked-up stuff going on here. Some of it also seemed really familiar, and after a little research, I realized that was because I had seen the Wayne's World parody of it on Saturday Night Live!)
  • 13. INXS – Need You Tonight / Mediate
  • 14. A-Ha – Take On Me
  • 15. Interpol – PDA
  • 16. The Wrens – Everyone Choose Sides
  • 17. REM – Everybody Hurts
  • 18. Pavement – Range Life
  • 19. Beck – Lost Cause
  • 20. Outkast – Hey Ya
  • 21. Liz Phair – Never Said

I hope you're enjoying Launch. The more albums I rate, the better it gets...

BTW, this admission makes many, many people laugh and howl, but in my book, Henley's The Boys of Summer is frankly about as damn perfect as 80s pop got. I love the song and hail it as a miniature masterpiece.

Enjoy!

Shalom, y'all!

I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I did like the song a lot. Already Launch has helped me discover some great songs. I loved the XTC songs, and I liked the New Order song and "The Delivery Man" a lot more than I expected to.

BTW, have you seen the Cut Your Hair video?

Oh, and also, do you know how many skips we're allowed to have? I've heard commercials for Plus that say we have limited skips, but I couldn't find where it says how many we have.

"I'm not sure I'd go that far, but I did like the song a lot."

That is more than cool; as long as you aren't laughing! You wouldn't believe the grief friends have given me over liking (OK, loving) that song.

I'm really happy you liked the new Costello song. I think the album, while not quite up to personal favorites such as This Year's Model, Trust, and Get Happy!!, is an under-rated disc, especially compared to the fanfare his last offering received. If you ever get the chance to hear the song Bedlam, let me know your reactions.

I had seen the Cut Your Hair video, but could only remember the gorilla. I watched it again at your prompting; thanks! No wonder the song became a minor MTV hit...

I don't know about the skips limits. I just know I've never ran up against it yet, and the first few days back on, I did use the feature quite a bit!

Shalom, y'all!

I rated The Delivery Man album with a "Love it", I believe, so Launch very well may play another song from it.

As for Cut Your Hair, my favorite part is when the guy drinks that blue stuff that barbers soak combs in.

That's my favorite part as well. Those boys...

Shalom, y'all!
