- This is a list of my favorite movies that make you think (aka not guilty pleasures). Probably will not contain too many comedy movies.(sorry)Listed in no particular order.
- Immortel (Ad Vitam), a French Sci-Fi movie based on a comic book but good nonetheless. For me the most interesting thing about it is the inclusion of Egyptian myth.
- Scanners, a David Cronenberg movie about telepathic, telekinetic people. Very strange and at times graphic.
- Videodrome, another Cronenberg movie, very disturbing and not for the weak of heart, but interesting nonetheless. Hard to describe with any kind of brevity.
- A Clockwork Orange, also disturbing, is about a teenage hoodlum who undergoes mental treatment which renders him... different (watch it yourself!).
- Logan's Run, a sci-fi movie about a futuristic possibility for the human race, with all of civilization living inside a dome and sacrificing themselves at age 30.
- The Omega Man, you may have seen previews recently for I am Legend, starring Will Smith. This is the original film adaptation of that book, starring Charlton Heston.
- 2001 - A Space Odyssey, a very trippy albeit slow-paced vision of the future, past, and what space travel may bring.
- Any of a number of Hayao Miyazaki movies, including but not limited to Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa - Castle in the Sky, etc...
- Ghost in the Shell, I enjoyed this futuristic anime, but even more so I enjoyed the second season of its show. I'm currently in the process of watching the first season, so I'll update this if need be.
- Lupin III movies, especially The Castle of Cagliostro. Basically a series of movies about Arsene Lupin III, a master thief and his friends, stealing things but usually foiling greater criminals as well. Cagliostro is probably my favorite because it has fairly deep human elements to it, but I also like Island of Assassins fairly equally for similar reasons. Oh, and it's animated, for anyone who cares.
- The Butterfly Effect, as much as I wanted to hate a movie with Ashton Kutcher in it, I found myself thinking about the movie for days afterwards. A movie about changing the past, and the problems that come with it.
- The Triplets of Belleville, a French animated movie, but don't let the language barrier throw you off, it is almost entirely wordless. It is about a mother, her son, and his dog. Very funny, very weird, and very enjoyable. (Warning, it is very slow in the beginning, so you have to tough out a bit before it begins to move faster, but it's worth it I promise!)

Thats about all I can think of for now. These are the kinds of movies that I watch before going to sleep, so for any suggestions the "thinky-er" the better. =)
