In random order at each rating level. I have borrowed lukeprogs rating system, which I think is good for me because I don't really think I can accurately tell the difference in quality for albums in the same tier on this list. This is still very much under construction, as there are a lot of albums I still have to listen to more, and many I have yet to hear.

A great list! I am very excited to see how this whole thing pans out. Do you think you'll add jazz or are you going to keep them separate?
I don't really know yet. I still haven't really found the time to really get into jazz, but I would really rather have everything in one list.
Also, how do you do all those changes of fonts and spaces and graphics and everything? I can't figure out how to do anything other than one line after another, same font, no spaces or anything. I can't even get italics to work.
I gotcha. Whether rock or both jazz and rock I am very interested and looking forward to your selections. I enjoy all of them already.
To do the things you're asking about (font, spaces, etc.) click on "Site Map" on the right side of your screen just below the "recent updates", then go to "help" at the bottom of the selections, and go to "advanced". It will tell you how to do all that stuff.
woops... "Site Map" is on the left side of your screen, not on the right.
Cool, I look forward to the rest of your selections.
I never really grokked the greatness of Earth. Even 2 seemed like "The Metal Guitar Tribute to LaMonte Young", like Orthrelm's OV is "The Metal Guitar Tribute to Philip Glass".
Well 2 should really be an 8, I was just adding stuff real quick when I made the list. I'm rating it on the assumption that the last track is only about 5-10 minutes long, because as it is, it is way to long. I've never heard any LaMonte Young, so I can't really say how its similar to that. I think whats great about it is how Earth create such a dark and oppressive atmosphere, how it moves from a super slow groove in the first track, until finally by the end it is just a sustained drone.
Also, after listening to The Downward Spiral today, one thought went through my mind. How the hell did this thing go quadruple platinum?
Trent Reznor is unfeasibly good-looking. Plus, the mix is glossy. It's one of the most hi-fidelity masterpieces on here. And the drum machines allow for the mechanical tightness of rhythm, so people can overlook whatever art the album might contain and just listen to it to get their groove on.
La Monte Young - The Well-Tuned Piano. I recommend downloading it, ApeOven. Don't bother trying to actually buy it; the Gramavision 1987 5-CD box sets are long out of print and go on eBay for upwards of $600.
