My Favorite musicans and why

  • The Beatles: At the top of the list because they are tied for favorite. The Beatles started it all pretty much. Dylan and Elvis predated them maybe, but The Beatles changed music history. The started out as just a very good pop band and ended up the greatest thing to ever happen to music. EVERY style of music was never the same after them. Usually when I listen to a song I can think of something I'd like to have done in the song differantly to make it better, but never with Beatles. Thier works are master pieces to my ears. John Lennon is my hero.
  • Led Zeppelin: My other favorite. Not quite as big as an impact as the Beatles upon music, but no doubt huge. The talent level in that band soared off the charts. Never in a Rock band were such a collection of virtuoso musicans together like that. Page is my opinion the best guitarist ever, and Bonham was awesome. Plant's voice is beautiful and could handle anything (before he got kind of old) and John Paul Jones' bass playing is vastly uderrated, and his arrangemant and other contributations to the band were awesome. They could play any kind of music you wanted and still keep thier style in there.
  • Bob Dylan: The man writes better songs than anyone almost. Its the simplicity that is to be admired. Nothing more than has to be. He paved the way for music in general. Where would we be without Mr. Dylan?
  • Cream: Three amazing musicans assembled and thier power was tremendous. Clapton's best work BY FAR, because he's f'n amazing is Cream and just so-so with everything else he did almost. Jack Bruce laid down the best basslines in rock as well as singing, and Ginger Baker could drum. Times it'd be like they were all soloing at once, but it was still rock solid and awesome.
  • Jimi Hendrix Expirience: Hendrix my be second to Jimmy Page, but he still remains as the first rock guitar monster. He paved the way for all guitar players to follow, and Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell deserve props for thier work too. They weave effortlessly through Jimi's guitar work and are both very good musicians. One of the best things I like about the band is Noel's bass parts that are very long give hint to his guitar playing background.
  • Jaco Pastorius: Hands down the electric bass played of all time. He made the bass a credible instrument. He fused so many styles of music together and could just fly on that fretless bass. He's what Jimi Hendrix is to guitar. He's my hero of bass, everything I do I want to sound like Jaco.
  • Electric Light Orchestra: ELO is vastly underrated and very talented. They have a very original and identifiable sound and they wrote very good arrangemants. Songs are very catchy and utilize lesser-used voices in rock like cellos, violins, opera singers, and more.
  • Sublime: To this day i don't know why I like them so much with all the other stuff I listen to, but I love them to death. Surprisingly good guitar solos, groovy bass lines, tasteful use of effects, and just simple tunes. I like them alot. I think of them as the motown of ska, if that makes sense to anyone else.
  • Dave Matthews: Weather he's with his band, with Time Reynolds or Trey Anastasio, or any other musicans, he just shines through and if phenominal. I've grown kind of tired with him lately, due to unimpressive recent albums and far too many live albums of the same songs (use that money to SEE him live) But he still remains a great musician. he writes great tunes, has interesting guitar parts, and I like his voice alot.
  • Miles Davis: I love that man. He was so good at his instrument. It was just what he had to play to get his message across and nothing more. He and Jaco had larger impact on jazz than anyone else since Duke Ellington. When he was with Coltrane he was unstoppable.
  • I like many, many more artists, but those are a few of my greatest loves.

Ask me about any artist and I will gladly tell my thoughts. Music is my life and I everything i do involves music. I play Double bass, bass guitar, guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, and mandolin.

As a fan of Zeppelin and Cream, what do you think of Free ? (my favourites). Better than both (IMHO). Paul Kossoff was so creative on guitar. Paul Rodgers is unsurpassed on vocals, his reputation has grown over the years, and his voice has improved since he gave up smoking.

I saw the Beatles . . .
