My Favorite Bruce Springsteen Albums

- 1. Born to Run - Nobody else has every sounded like they wanted to escape to the future while wishing to live in the past so passionately. Conflicted, confused, but pulsing with life bloody life.
- 2. The River - From calm (the title song) to wild (Cadillac Ranch), this album flows and flows and flows. I don't reckon it'll ever end.
- 3. Darkness on the Edge of Town - And that darkness surely seeps through this one.
- 4. The Ghost of Tom Joad - Was he listening to Dylan and Guthrie? Reading The Grapes of Wrath? He's always lived deep in the rich veins of America, but he rarely taps those earthy treasures as deeply as he does here.
- 5. The Wild, The Innocent, & the E-Street Shuffle - The Young, The Original, & the First Triumphant Blast

I could go on and on.

Nice list Judge, a little surprised to see Joad so high and no Nebraska to be found but I am not one to quibble. Great succint description of Born to Run.
I like Nebraska, but I don't love it. When most people describe Nebraska, I usually wonder if they really mean The River. Nebraska is an interesting experiment, and the songs are pretty solid, but the demo-as-final-product approach was a bit of a mis-fire. Bruce, hire a producer!
I've been puzzled over Joad's reception among fans. Some love it, some really think Bruce went down the wrong alley. I adore it.
Thanks. My first list here. Bruce deserves it. I don't even think he's my favorite rock artist, but he seems to enbody everything I like a rock artist to be.
Zeep! Zep! Zeep!
Well first off an unofficial welcome to Listology, its a fun place and looking at recent posts I have seen you have already been noticed.:)
I think I could take your comments about Nebraska and Joad and just reverse them. I love Nebraska and I like Tom Joad. But I still think Tunnel of Love if not his best; certainly is his most underrated album.
Tunnel of Love would certainly be a contender for number 6 above. But then so would Born in the USA. And. And.
Thanks for rolling out the welcome mat. I'll try to hang around here as much as my schedule allows. I travel too much, but I have a new laptop, so I'm even more dangerous now.
I dig this site. Anybody know who's responsible for it? He / she deserves an award or two.
Zeep! Zeep! Zeep!
For better or worse, I guess I'm responsible. :-) Thanks for the compliments, and welcome to Listology!
You are the high priest of cool. How on earth did you hit upon this idea?
I do believe I am growing addicted. Curses upon you.
Continuing a theme of the day, I'm honored to be high priest in a church where lbangs is godlike. :-)
Basically I came up with the idea after realizing that I've had and enjoyed far too many "favorite X of all time" late night discussions. That, and I was sick of all the collaborative filtering tools on the web that glommed all these opinions together to try to come up with recommendations. I find it far more productive (and fun) to find an individual with similar tastes to get good recommendations rather and relying on some kind of average public appeal type of system.
And I hope the addiction endures. Mine has. I wish this were my full-time job.
Great site. My job forces me to be a mere occasional lister, but I shall try to be a faithful one.

Alright, now I'll just have to be honest (and reveal my non-divinity) by admitting that I have never owned The River nor do I believe I have every listened to it all the way through yet. Once they finally release the Springsteen remasters they have been promising for a few years now, I'll have to pick it up.
By the way, you nailed Born to Fun in two sentences. Wow.
Shalom, y'all!

Er, make that Run...
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
El Bangs (I believe I suffered from that once), I would wait on those remasters, which should be out by Christmas, I believe. From your lists, I bet you go ape sh..
I sent you an email. I hope the hotmail address you posted on earlier lists is still a good one.
Thank you.
