My Cookbook Collection

Tags:
  • General Cookbooks
  • Something Tastes Funny - Sean Donnellan: I've only ever made the hummus recipe but damn, that's good hummus.

  • UC Davis Coffeehouse Cookbook: This would be my favorite cookbook except that sometimes not all of the ingredients are listed. Like Bozo Bars without any sugar. But you have to admit, it adds the joy of surprise. Favorite recipe: Buttercream Frosting, with various permutations.

  • 500 Treasured Country Recipes - Martha Storey and Friends: easily my favorite and the one most often consulted. Includes sections on homebrewing and butchering (boo). Favorite recipe: Lemon Balm Banana Bread.

  • Witch in the Kitchen: Magical Cooking for All Seasons - Cait Johnson: Favorite recipe: Smoky Pumpkin Soup. (The "smoky" comes from smoked gouda. I know, I was wondering too.)

  • Food from Green Places: Vegetarian Recipes from Garden and Countryside - Rosamond Richardson. Haven't made anything from it yet.

  • The Pyromaniac's Cookbook: The Best in Flaming Food and Drink - John J Poister: Oh the fun you can have with open flame. I had no idea you could burn the crap out of so many different foods. Favorite recipe: Bananas Flambe.

  • Caprial's Desserts - Caprial Pence and Melissa Carey: Total dessert porn. It's way more fun to read than make things from it, because the recipes are seriously complicated. Favorite recipe: Dark and White Chocolate Chunk Cookies.

  • The Ghirardelli Chocolate Cookbook : It's a nice mix of history and chocolate dessert porn. Favorite recipe: Tiramisu.

  • The Coffee Book: featuring a section on teas - Christie and Thomas Katona: Weirdly 70s, even if published in 1992. Includes sections on choosing coffee and brewing coffee and even though I love coffee, I can't remember the last time I opened this book.

  • The Agony of the Leaves: The Ecstasy of My Life with Tea - Helen Gustafson: Part memoir, part recipe book. Best use: read while drinking tea, unsurprisingly. Haven't tried a recipe yet.

  • The Herbal Pantry - Emelie Tolley and Chris Mead : Ever wonder how to capture a summer afternoon in a book? Wonder no more. However it will make you feel inadequate for not making your own vinegar. Favorite recipe: Strawberry Vodka.

  • Claire's Classic American Vegetarian Cooking: 225 New and Favorite Homestyle Vegetarian Recipes - Claire Criscuolo: I'm in two minds about this book. Basically, it makes me want to be a better vegetarian.

  • Great Cookies: Secrets to Sensational Sweets - Carole Walter: Cookie porn! Cookie porn! Oh my god, COOKIE PORN! I can't even make anything from it, it's so crazy.

  • Delia Smith's Complete Cookery Course - Delia Smith: This is where I turn when I forget how to boil an egg. Favorite recipe: Palmieri. I don't make them, but my mom does.

  • White Wine for Dummies - Yes, for dummies. Favorite recipe: white wine.

  • Sunset Bread : My boyfriend's book. Now if only we had a breadmaker, we'd have opened the book maybe once in the past 3 years.

I don't have enough to break it into more specific categories than Cookbook, Cooking Zine or Partner's Cookbook.
