My All-Time Favorite TV Characters

  • In no particular order
  • Carla, Cheers - I loved her smart mouth and the way she insulted Cliffy (and everyone else). I want to be her in my next life, except for all the pregnancies.
  • Eric Foreman, That 70's Show - He's just hilarious. The way he says things just cracks me up.
  • Homer J. Simpson, The Simpsons - Who doesn't love Homer? Ah, for the bliss of ignorance. Give the guy a donut and he's in heaven. If only everyone were so easily satisfied by the simple things in life.
  • Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone, Absolutely Fabulous - I couldn't pick one over the other. I think people either love or hate this show, and it's one of my favorites, ever. The two of them are a screaming riot, but you really need them together for the best effect.
  • Elaine, Seinfeld - At the risk of sounding egotistical, or maybe just stupid, she reminds me a lot of myself. The way she reacts to things and some of the things she says... I guess I just relate, somehow.
  • Phoebe, Friends - If I can't be Carla in my next lifetime, I want to be Phoebe. She's the only person/character as weird as I am in reality - that I'm aware of.
  • Stewie, Family Guy - There's just no end to how effing funny Stewie is.

I'll probably add to this list.

I think Elaine resonates with a lot of women. I know I relate to her, largely because of her complex relationship with men. She hangs out with them, has a good laugh with them, but at times just finds them too baffling for words. Also, I fancy myself a good dancer, but deep down I wonder if people are behind my back saying "Sweet fancy Moses! It's like a full body dry heave!"

Get out!

A woman baffled by men who have no clue about women... what's not to relate and resonate?

Elaine has certainly added a layer (of apprehension?) to my appreciation of EWF. (I wonder if Ms. Louis-Dreyfus is ever able to go out dancing without someone saying something... I like to preface all of my dancing with a toast.)

Do you do the little kicks and the thumbs?

Sadly, I have no sound on this computer. And no, I don't do the kicks and the thumbs, though I do a cracking impression of that particular dance. Rather, I hope that my dancing isn't received with the same sense of horror. I think I'd rather stay blissfully unaware, though, as I do so love dancing!

No, actually, that's one of the things where I'm not like her - I really *can* dance. ;)
