I've not been so taken with some of Ozu's other films though; i do admire him a lot but i'm more of a big Mizoguchi fan (also rate Tarkovsky, Hitch, Renoir and Kubrick and possibly Dreyer above Ozu).

I've only seen Tokyo Story, but I'd heard most of his films are 'the same', and figured that if you liked a couple, you'd like them all :-)

With Ozu of course the little differences become more interesting. Carefully controlled subtle use of colour in his later films but i think his peak (at least of what i've seen) was the b+w trio Late Spring, Early Summer + Tokyo Story between 1949-53. He does deal with family issues that have similarities and in his own quiet characteristic style, with a certain rhythm to his establishing shots, but there's still a different feel to each film, with plenty of variations.

And some films are more upbeat, cheerful, comic, even romantic, others more melancholy + wistful, some from a younger, others from an older persepctive, with different generations involved. See for yourself! I love Late Spring.

Wow, you certainly have an impressive list. Lots of film I like very much, and also lots of films I wanted to see for some time now, but still haven't lain hands on them.
