I know this may sound a bit strange, but jblack, do we know eachother? Or are we connected to your friends via the smallest degrees of seperation?
The name Greg Wilmouth sounds very familiar.
And I believe I spent a day with Antoinette Kamer at a lifepsring family session in 1989. I was 9 at the time. Because of some group excercise, we were assigned to go have lunch together and from what I remember, we had quite an involving series of conversations. The other day I was rummaging through some old stuff and I found this piece of paper that said "I am a caring sensitive intelligent young boy" and on the back it had the name "Antoinette Kamer" on it with a phone number for some dorm at Brooks College.
I'd very much like to get in contact with her. Every few years or so, I often wonder where she is and what she's doing with her life.
Its amazing what an impact a day of conversation can have on you when your only nine years old.
Greg
Had a dream last night and lots of stuff came back to me about this lifespring session. Strong emotions coming back after 15 years. A bit creepy.
I just remembered that lifepsring retreat was across the street from the Hollywood Ranch Market. I think it was sometime during January. I actually think Greg Wilmoth was there but I could be wrong. I remember a balding Greg. And a guy slightly older than me named Seth who had blonde hair. Plus there was a guy who had some kind of neurological disorder and couldn't speak very well. And we would dance around in huge lines to the strains of "We are Family". They also played the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey during one of the visualization excercises. I think my adult self would have been more skeptical of the whole thing. But hey, I was 9.
The times I remember most and least were my long conversations with Antoinette. I don't remember much of the content of what we spoke about except for the fact that I mentioned something about wanting to be a musician and having a fascination for the music of the Beatles and Frank Zappa. I guess in 1989, that was a bit more unusual for a young person than it would be after the retro craze of the 90's. I also remember her laughing alot. And although this could be a projection of my 9 year old memory, I remember us really hitting off.
Its strange. I think it was my first big crush. I don't remember feeling like that again until I fell in love with my first girlfriend 9 years later. And its probably not a coincidence that they both looked quite alot alike.
After the retreat, Antoinette gave me her number and I called her a few months later. We had planned to meet and she would take me for some ice cream at a place called Farrell's a few miles from my house. She never came. I never heard from her again.
I have my speculations as to why this is. My best guess was being nine years old, I didn't quite understand the social norms regarding the intervals at which you contact your friends. Haha...I think I called too much and was probably a nuisance. But hey, I was "in love!" (in nine year old quotes).
I'm 25 now. I just finished a long hard BA and will be moving to England in the fall to start my grad school work in philosophy. I have a fiance who lives there and we're schedualed to get married around the summer of 2007. Things are pretty good by my estimations.
However, every once a year or so, I wonder what happened to Antoinette. I guess if I could contact her again, I'd want to tell her I'm sorry for calling so many times. I still feel bad about it even to this day. And I still think about her once every six months or so. I wonder what she's doing and I wonder what it would be like to talk to her as an adult.
The sad pathetic truth is that the Antoinette Kamer in this list might not even be the same person I'm talking about. Wouldn't that be ironic!
But if by any chance it is the person I'm thinking of and she by some strange accident reads this, all I can say is:
"I'm sorry for calling so many times. But you do owe me a fucking ice cream."
Hehe..
well i would need to know your real name to give you any real knowledge of antoinette. but general stuff is this. Born march 6, 1970. Lives in Long Beach and she is an interior decorater. Long red curly hair and freckles and pretty green eyes.
theres also no earthly way you know greg wilmoth unless you've been to duncan oklahoma. he has never been out of the three state area.
Jeff...it's me...Antoinette. I hope that you get this message soon! I'd love to talk to you. It has been such a long time. I hope you are doing well...and your brother? Steve, is he well too? I still live in So. Cal. I am married with three lovely children; Nickolas(11), Sydney Lauren(5) and Bailey Anne(2 1/2). I know that you have atleast (1) little one...Jeff Jr., right? ha, ha.
I hope to talk with you soon!!
-Antoinette
Hi Antoinette,
Its me Greg.
I think you may have confused my name with someone else's but I think you have an idea of who I am, since you remembered I have a brother named Steve. I'm quite amazed you do remember that.
If you are the Antoinette Kamer (the person I remember) then all I have to say is WOW...!
Viva La Blog!
Can you believe its been 16 years? Its amazing how time flies. 16 years is certainly alot to catch up on in one little posting. So I guess all I can say for now is I'm very happy to know you are still alive and doing well. I am so happy to hear from you after all these years, you have no idea!!! And I am of course, sorry for calling all those times. I was only 9 but I'm sure I could have been more ..mature. Hehe..
I'd love to talk to you some more if you'd like. My email address is Cortex3959@aol.com. I also have a myspace profile up at http://www.myspace.com/thetruthaboutcafe10
If you go to this link, you can see what I look like (now) if your still not sure I am who you may think I may be. There's also a bunch of other bits of information about me. You get to see pics of my friends and my girlfriend Lizzy.
I'm moving to Nottingham (in the UK) in September to start my Masters in Philosophy but for the next four weeks, I'm still living in Downey just like I did 16 years ago.
I have so many questions I'd like to ask you. Were the 90's good for you? What is it like to be an interior designer? Who did you marry and what are your kids like? What do you look like now? Very different, very similiar? I'm not sure if I look very different or very similiar to what I looked like as a nine year old.
I'm curious what you remember about the weekend we spent at that bizarre retreat. Childhood memories are such a funny thing. I'm curious how accurate mine is. I seem to have a bizarre recollection of us feeding eachother pieces of celery and laying on the floor together. Weird huh?
Anyways, if you'd like to continue this discussion you can email me or post here. I hope I get to talk to you again before I turn 41 in another 16 years.
Take Care,
Greg
PS: I almost forgot to answer your questions. Steve is doing great. He's a long haired experimental metal guitarest who is a writer and inventor. I'm the only one in the family who isn't a musician. No, I don't have any kids but my girlfriend has two and they are in their late teens. Its kind of like having an extra brother and sister, we're so close in age.
Andy, I love you who knows when you will get this message but I hope you do soon. My e mail address is jblack_303@yahoo.com. I hope to get mail from you soon so we can exchange info so we can talk soon. I miss you and cant wait to catch up real soon.
