- As my tastes and perspectives evolve, many old reviews no longer reflect how I now feel about them.
- Jules and Jim (1962) - There are a few cliches you cannot fault a film for using. One is the love triangle. This is a touching and beautiful film about three friends that kept me captivated from frame one - this last trait due to the stunning direction, which gives the film an energy and life unlike any I've seen in any film before it. One of the best-directed films I've ever seen - and like another in that class, Andrei Rublev, the film's several small faults fail to blunt the power of its confident direction. Spoiler: Highlight to viewThe ending surely inspired those of Bonnie and Clyde, Thelma & Louise, and others.
