Starving student/writer. Will take musical donations.

I highly recommend the Natural Born Killers soundtrack; it contains a delirious, delightful mix of musics, and for once, the snippets of the film work well with the selections.

Have you considered The Trinity Sessions, or do you already own this?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

No, I don't own The Trinity Sessions as of yet, but I am definitely considering it!

There's nothing finer than wanting to hear the White Stripes or Neutral Milk Hotel. Unless you wish to hear the White Stripes, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Elliott Smith.

have you heard anything by these artists? if I could be of any help, let me know. jeez. i should send you a mix CD or something.

For the answer to the Eliott Smith question, have you viewed my favorite albums and favorite songs lists?

As for the White Stripes, I admit I've only heard "Fell in Love with a Girl" because I haven't yet bought the CD.

I haven't heard anything by Neutral Milk Hotel, but it's a friend's recommendation to aid my burgeoning interest in the world of indie.

Mixed CDs are very welcome...

I think it's quite obvious I haven't read your albums/songs list...heh heh... oops.

Hmmm... anyway. Yeah, perhaps we can bang out a mix CD. One of my favorite sites is www.artofthemix.org. I've made a couple trades with people via that site; it's a fun little experience to get new music from another state (or country, in one case). Just a thought.

Neutral Milk Hotel is excellent. It's like secular worship music. I can put on "King of Carrot Flowers Parts 1-3" and within a half-minute my mood has been lifted immeasurably.

I checked out art of the mix--a great way to keep music trade alive and well (although a bit harder, but maybe more interesting) post-napster.

I'll make a trade with you...sounds fun. How do you usually go about it?

well, people find something of mine that I like and they e-mail me and ask for a trade. I e-mail which CD of theirs I'd like to hear, we exchange mailing addresses, and that's it. My printer's no good, so I don't include much more than a case, a CD, and a tracklist.

that's pretty much it. I'll get a preliminary tracklist going and you tell me if it interests you, you've already heard it, etc. does that work?

Sounds good to me. Only, I'm not sure what I can trade with you that you haven't heard. Anything you've been wanting to get into (maybe I have it?) or any themes you'd like to hear? Also, I can only do cassette right now. Let me know. I look forward to seeing your tracklist...

I have a list I cloned from you that might work. There's a lot of stuff on there; however, it's not a big deal if you include tracks I've heard before. If the songs fit, I'll wear it.

As far as themes... well, it's been rainy down here the past few days. anything go with that?

And I suppose I should ask you, also, is there any mood or theme you would particularly like to hear? I'll do my best to work some artists on your list into the format.

How do you feel about a 8:46 song? I have a great Jim O'Rourke track, but it may be considered a bit repetitious. I can strike it, no worries.

I was going to include "Celebrated Summer" by Husker Du, but then I checked out your favorite albums list.

So I won't. Still working...

Amie, I got it! How does this suit you? Respond at your convenience, of course.

1. Boards of Canada - I Saw Drones
2. Neutral Milk Hotel - King of Carrot Flowers Pt. 1
3. Neutral Milk Hotel - King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 & 3
4. The New Pornographers - The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism
5. Jim O'Rourke - Prelude to 110 or 220 Women of the World
6. Le Tigre - Deceptagon
7. The Clash - Janie Jones
8. Patti Smith - Gloria
9. Chuck Prophet - I Bow Down And Pray To Every Woman I See
10. David Bowie - Five Years
11. The Walkmen - The Blizzard of '96
12. Mark Eitzel - I Only Have Eyes for You
13. Massive Attack with Tracy Thorn - Protection
14. Stevie Wonder - I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)
15. East River Pipe - Baltimore
16. Buffalo Springfield - Flying on the Ground Is Wrong [demo]
17. Death Cab for Cutie - We Laugh Indoors
18. Robert Pollard - Subspace Biographies
19. Spoon - The Way We Get By
20. Elliott Smith - Junk Bond Trader
21. Ramones - I Don't Wanna Grow Up
22. The White Stripes - The Same Boy You've Always Known

Very nice! Thanks, Nick! I'm definitely going to dig this mix. The only song I've heard on this list is "Protection," which I love and don't have a copy of. Even with the bands/artists I've listened to--The Clash, Patti Smith, David Bowie, Eliott Smith, and Ramones--you've included songs I haven't yet heard. Nice!

I'm still working on a tentative track list with the theme of rain. I've unearthed some interesting possibilities from my collection...now I only have to pare it down. I should have the list tomorrow.

Here it is. (Sorry for the delay).

1. Stormy Weather--The Pixies
2. Deadly Skies--Husker Du
3. I Hear the Rain--The Violent Femmes
4. Storm in My House--Minutemen
5. The Rain and the Sun--Big Pun feat. Dead Prez (sample)
6. Lover, You Should Have Come Over--Jeff Buckley
7. Raindrops Keep Fallin'on My Head--B.J. Thomas
8. Why Does It Always Rain on Me?--Travis
9. Have You Ever Seen the Rain?--Creedence Clearwater Revival
10. Things Behind the Sun--Nick Drake
11. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun--Pink Floyd
12. Beginning to See the Light--Velvet Underground
13. Here is the Light--Ours
14. Watch the Sunrise--Big Star
15. Dark Clouds--Space
16. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life--Monty Python
17. I'll Follow the Sun--The Beatles

Provided I can fit this all on a 90 minute cassette; otherwise, I'll have to tweak the order.

I'm not a big fan of CCR, but do like "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?"

Songs that I cut, but I can replace if you don't like one or more of the songs here.

1. Standing In the Rain--Husker Du (Oddly, it doesn't seem to fit)
2. It's Gonna Rain--The Violent Femmes ("I Hear the Rain" is better)
3. Steal My Sunshine--Len (I like this song, but when it came out it received a lot of pop radio airplay and may be annoying to some)
4. Cry, Cry--Mazzy Star (Was going to include because their mood is so sad)
5. Higher than the Sun--Primal Scream (Got the cut for the superior, "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun")

Wow. No, this'll work. I have the CCR song, the Beatles song, and the Nick Drake song, but I think they'll all be excellent in context.

I do like "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" I'm intrigued by the Mazzy Star song, but if you think the song order is good, I'm more than satisfied.

Thanks for your work!

I'll e-mail you my address.

I'll add the Mazzy Star song.
