Movies Watched (from September 2007 on)

  2. Grosse Pointe Blank (R) this is one of my all time favorites. I saw it seven times on the big screen. There's nothing like a hitman with a heart of gold. sigh. ++++
  3. The Prestige wow, was this way better than I expected. It sat on the DVR for weeks before I sat down to watch it. And I loved the plot turns, and Christian Bale rocks. ++++
  4. 3:10 to Yuma (2007) (T)Christian Bale Strikes Again. I enjoyed this, though it got long towards the middle. However, Bale and Russell Crow have great chemistry and it reminded me that I like Westerns. +++
  5. Highlander : the Source OMG was this worse than I even expected. And I was well warned. How TPTB could go so wrong with such a fun, deep franchise is beyond me. Adrian Paul and Peter Wingfield give it their best, but the director was apparently snorting Smarties and should have been shot. There was, I kid you not, a recap of the entire movie in the final ten minutes. Quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.
  6. The Big Lebowski (R)there's something about the way the Coen Bros write dialog, such specific, amazing dialog, that gets me every time. That, and Sam Eliott as The Stranger. Jeff Bridges is a sight to behold. +++
  7. Super Bad (T)I didn't find most of this to be very funny. The cops were mildly amusing. But really. Doesn't hold a candle to "American Pie." +
  8. Stardust (T)Cute. I've seen it compared to "The Princess Bride" but it didn't take itself and its world seriously enough for that. Fun but fluffy light.++
  9. Eastern Promises (T)
    Spoiler: Highlight to view
Viggo Mortenson in a naked knife fight.
What more needs to be said? On a serious note, it was a very absorbing study of violence, and noting the audience reaction was part of the experience. The end fell off a bit, but overall quite good.
    +++
  10. Master and Commander : the Far Side of the World (R)I can't say enough about my love for this film. And I don't care about ships. But the Crow/Bettany duo is movie gold.+++++
  11. October 2007
  12. The Bourne Ultimatum (T,R)Mom hadn't seen this yet so we took her this weekend. Gotta love Bourne. +++
  13. To Live and Die in L.A.- I really was underwhelmed, sadly. Tho tickled at all the Miami Vice alumni. And the
    Spoiler: Highlight to view
fact that the protagonist totally bought it two thirds of the way thru, which was awesome.
    .
  14. Ocean's 11 (R) Can't get enough of these movies. The first is the best, but oh how I adore them. Great characters, fun plotting, snappy dialogue. What more can you ask for from a heist movie?++++

(T) - saw on the Big Screen
(R) - rewatch - I've seen it before

Did you see Super Bad twice on the big screen?

oops. No, only once. Thank God.

Holy smokes your taste in movies is eclectic, but that's definitely not a bad thing. You couldn't have deliberately planned more randomness. Awesome.

heh. This coming from the fan of Death at Sea flicks and slasher movies:).

I don't shoot for randomness, really. Actually, my movie watching has been down the last few months. Need to catch up.

The worlds of Death at Sea and slasher flicks often overlap, though. They seem almost intentionally non-random.

true. Dead Calm comes to mind. Though that wasn't really a slasher.
