Movies Seen in April 2004

  • 03/04/04- Run, Ronnie, Run- This movie piqued my curiousity because it is supposed to be absolutely godawful, to the point where New Line refused to release the film in theatres and sent it direct to video. Yet, it was written by Bob and David of Mr. Show based on a very funny sketch they did, and it features guest stars like Jack Black, Dave Foley, Scott Thompson, and Jeff Goldblum. But then even Bob and David have disowned it, saying nobody should see it... So I didn't know what to think, and I gave it a shot, and you know what... it wasn't that bad. There were moments that were genuinely charming and smart and surreal... not exactly Spielberg, but not the worst movie ever made either... Although, based on who made it, it could have been far, far funnier. Disappointing, but still ok. 4/10
  • 07/12/04- Note: After rewatching this film several times, i've realized it actually gets funnier each time. I get this film's humour in a way I didn't upon first viewing. Wierd, huh? The humour is bizarre but worth giving a shot. So, upon furthur consideration, my rating is moved up to 7/10.
  • 05/04/04- Shattered Glass- An interesting film, well-paced, beautifully shot and with a few great performances. Haydn Christensen is wonderful, but it's a tense and understated performance by Peter Sarsgaard that really blew me away. An excellent film. 8/10
  • 11/04/04- Cheaper by the Dozen- Fairly lighthearted, easygoing family film... I think it's actually funnier and a better watch if you come from a big family, like I do. I watched the whole film going "Oh man... that's exactly right" in my head. I've had many a breakfast similar to the one the Baker family has early in the film. Nothing especially memorable or great about this film, though. 6/10
