WWE - The Rise & Fall Of ECW (2004) : Never heard of this one before. Looks interesting. I don't watch wrestling anymore but I had always wondered what really happened to ECW and why. It just seemed to disappear.
Have you ever watched Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)?
yeah its a worth while documentary if you are / were a wrestling fan. i went off it recently but this got me back into it. Its a shame really that ecw fell, it was very important to world of wrestling.
UFC, no not really. i hope to see more.
Yea I recently got back into wrestling too. That's a great DVD. Anyone who's a fan of wrestling and Dumb and Dumber is OK in my book.
Read this only after you have finished Metropolis:
In my opinion, the ending really sucks, while the rest of the movie is innovative.
Thx, i'll read it when i'm done. which should be by monday (part of media lesson) so far i'm well into it, very good film years ahead of its time
well now i have finished it now. well, i can see why you may think that and i agree. however, i do like the end, i feel it displayed well what happens when the working class revolt, the fall of society. However at same time for a film that was so innovative in terms of pretty much everything else, i can see yuor disapointment. the rest of the film was a head of its time in visuals, set design, ideas. like evil maria, the strength given to a female character at that time is very refreshing. she has control of nearly everyone, leading a revolution against the machines. however, i saw the ending as taking an amlost action movie aspect, which lets it down. the political ending though i feel redeemed it slightly with them joining hands. however, maybe that itself is a flaw? not sure, however i can see what you mean, still a good film though, very important and trend setting for other movies.
Excellent point. I especially dislike the political ending of the movie. There should have been no reconciliation. Joining hands can hardly resolve social and political problems. For Lang I prefer M, but I like Murnau better.
yeah, i mean i was very interested in the movie, i think i'll raise my rating to B+. i again see your point about the ending you made in this post here. thats true, and i'd go as far as to say it had an almost tacked on feel, like "well this'll go down well" but it did also make the point to say that the working class gave in to the powers that be, which i guess is a strong point, but i think thats just over shadowed but an ending that didn't live up to the past 2 half hrs of great movie.
Murnau is a director right? i'll check him out
Yup, Murnau is a great director. Nosferatu and Sunrise are two of his films. But I need to watch The Last Laugh.
If you're into German Expressionism of the 20s, you might also like The Golem and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
Grizzly Man. Ugh. Can you rate a film as good even if the subject is so totally wacko? I guess I think it was as well done as could be expected, but seriously, that guy was disturbed, for as normal as he was in some ways ...
well, i thought it was a well made film, doesn't matter if the man was disturbed, most documentaries made our about people in a fragile state, and the film was so engaging. it was interesting cus as you say, he was normal is some aspects, had fairly good sense of humour and as a character within this film, he was very interesting, disturbed sure. plus most fictional films are based on characters slightly off tilt, doesn't make them bad films, and many of them are based on real people or real events. i see it as, a good film is a good film.
Yeah, I just walked away with such an icky feeling, but it was definitely about the guy and the people surrounding him (the coroner! - not even one of his associates by choice). I guess that's a good sign, though, if the film makes you feel *something* about the characters and the story engages you. It makes me shudder even now.
I have to agree about Cars being boring. Glad to see you like Pieces of April, Mean Creek, and Dirty Pretty Things. They are favorites of mine.
What was so bad about Pirates? I haven't seen it yet.
yeah, cars just really seemed to drag. second time round, even though i wasn't big on it first time, but second, i realised that really nothing happens, the scenes in that car town place were flat. characters weren't as appealing either, there was no character (bar maybe owen wilsons) that had the depth of a buzz or woody.
hmmm well, its entertaining enough i guess, and looking back now at my score, i may have been a bit harsh on it. however, i just felt that it wasn't different enough to the first film. its like i could of just watched the first one again really. but its still pretty good
You have good taste! The first two saw films were IMHO classics for the horror genre, but the third was a let down. I'm surprised you gave Taxi Driver a B- though, any particular reason?
oh for sure i love the first 2 saw movie, yes the third was a letdown.
well i'm liking Taxi driver the more i see it, however i've just never been fully able to get into the film , mainly due to some of the themes of the movie. a little too depressing i find it
It's one of those hate it or love it films, like Trainspotting or Fight Club, you seen both of those? Saw 3 could have been so good as a finale, and even more worrying is they're planning to go up to a saw 6. Enough said.
yes i've seen both and gotta say i do really like both films.
haha yeah, no doubt Saw series will become a joke, a damn shame given the originality of the first and how they kept the qaulity up for the second
I agree, it's hard to make a sequel as good as (or in Saw's case, better in some opinions) the original (and then just sellout!), and so many great films have been let down by their successors...(The Matrix, POC (the 2nd two are good, but not original), Shrek, The Godfather etc etc)
Have you got a favourite films list? If so, I've gotta check it out, from this list it seems I have quite similar tastes to you so would be an interesting comparison.
NB. Sorry for the overdoing of the brackets, sometimes I just have to get it all down as it comes to my brain haha.
