Why some of these are considered "kids movies" is beyond me (i think they are all for kids except Poltergeist & Gremlins). I will admit that I was easily scared as a child but come on a cartoon where rabbits claw each other to death and imagine drowning in fields of blood...what were they thinking?

Great list. I never saw the first Poltergiest as a kid, but I couldn't finish the third one, I was so freaked out. There was also this movie they showed on "Disney's family hour" that gave my sisters and I nightmares for a long time. It was called "Mr. Boogety" or something. Did you ever see Legend or The Last Unicorn. We were fed some disturbing stuff as kids...
Yeah the Last Unicorn was a bit disturbing. That whole part with the bird or harpie or whatever it was attacking the old lady....dude
I was also an easily scared child-- I was terrified of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (70's animated version),Sleeping Beauty (there was some large black scary dragon) and Puff the Magic Dragon. I can really sympathize with you. Watership Down, however, I think was meant for grown-ups. I know the book was. Have a good day.
I don't know how old you are, but JAWS frightened a whole GENERATION of kids, myself included (I'm still leery of the ocean). Then there was the made-for-tv movie about nuclear war, I think it was called "The Day After" or something? I had nightmares for months, if not years, after that, and I saw it as a teen!
I know kids who also were frightened of Sleeping Beauty, but I liked it. Lots of Disney movies have really scary parts if you think about it...there's always that kind of good vs. evil thing going on...
The Day After was an ABC tv-movie in 1983. One of the more realistic descriptions of the probable aftermath of a nuclear war. Still one of the highest rated television shows, I believe.
USA replayed it a couple of weeks ago. Still scares the crap out of me.
Wow, glad to see I'm not the only one who had nightmares because of that donkey part in Pinnochio. How can they do that to kids?
Poltergeist had about ten moments that horrified me, fortifying my already existing fears of clowns and grabbing trees...
Have you seen Stephen Kings's It as a child? I was way too young when I saw that one...
