I have recently realized that I am a fool for movies with great art direction (this realization occurred when I was watching Down With Love and kept missing huge sections of dialogue because I was too busy checking out the amazing sets). Then it occurred to me that party scenes can be a wonderful occasion for good art direction, and I started listing a few.

What about Die Hard (1988)? It has a Christmas party scene.

Thank you. It will probably have the distinction of being the only movie on the list with a party that turns into an international terrorist event.

my favorite party scene is the farewell prohibition scene from once upon a time in america.

I haven't seen that one, unfortunately, but that reminds me that I need to add Once Upon a Time in America to my netflix queue.

How about two from opposite ends of the spectrum? Say Anything... and Meet Joe Black.

Thank you--great suggestions.

How about The Party starring Peter Sellers?

I haven't seen it, despite being a Peter Sellers fan. But I'll put it on the list based on that and the fact that the imdb plot description alone made me smile.

What about Vanilla Sky? It has a birthday party for Tom Cruise with Penelope Cruz, Camaron Diaz and Steven Spielberg. Ain't that a guest list?

What about the movie "The Party" with Peter Sellers. That would seem the most obvious and essential choice for this list.
