-=-=-=-if you know one thats longer than the current no.1 plz post it-==-=-=
feel free to discuss=-=-=-=-=
im in UK but im using USA and UK runtimes. if they dont match then i will note that down - as in the case of the shining (lol you get loads more shining!) tho i have seen that version on sky cinema ;] may sometimes just use the USA runtime as it is often the 'uncut' version and will be longer therefore benfit my list more
* = Cosgroves many contributions
*******UPDATED 18th of July 2004*****************

Well, since you asked, "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" is 201 minutes; "Lawrence of Arabia" is 216 minutes; "Once Upon a Time in America" is 229 minutes; "Gone With the Wind" is 238 minutes; "Shoah" (1985) is a documentary on the Holocaust that lasts around 560 minutes, or about 9 and a half hours; and the infamous, plotless "The Cure for Insomnia" (1987) is a whopping 5,220 minutes long, or about 87 hours.
The 30th separate version of Das Boot came out not too long ago (it's actually the director's cut) and is 293 minutes or so.
ty for your help. i will add them. lol cant believe i forgot about Lord of the rings.
ty
Gettysburg, 234 minutes. I'm sure Gods & Generals is up there, too.
Longest Most Meaningless Movie in the World (1970) - 2880 mins. Gettysburg (1993) - 261 mins. Gods and Generals (2003) - 231 mins. Empire (2002) - 485 mins. Cleopatra - 320 mins (director's cut). Sleep (1963) - 321 mins. 1900 (1976) - 318 mins.
I was going to say Rose Red and The Stand, but those are actually TV miniseries and that's why they are so long.
Oops, before my Gettysburg and Gods and Generals post hadn't showed up so I posted those twice.
Has it ever been determined if "Longest Most Meaningless..." actually exists? I mean, at least there's people out there who've seen "The Cure for Insomnia". The only time I ever remember seeing anything about "Meaningless" was in an old Guinness Book of World Records.
I would have stuck all 3 lord of the rings into one movie - they really are just that - one movie split into 3 parts. I don't actually know the full length. Also, I would use the speical editions - I think they're about 4 hours each, maybe more - that comes out to around a 12 hour movie total!
ty for all your help and showing me in my original list i only scatched the surface! lol
The Godfather: Part II - 200 min.
The Seven Samurai - 206 min.
The Ten Commandments - 220 min.
The Loyal 47 Ronin - 241 min.
The times are from imdb, which really should offer the ability to search on runtime for this sort of thing.
ty for your help
Is there a reason you still haven't added several of my suggestions?
no mate def.not. lol no your on my endorsment list :) na just havnt got round to it-but ill do it now
I would have to include: QBVII. Not only is this movie long, but it's also incredibly boring which makes it even longer.
A great list would be short films that feel interminably long.
And there's another bizarre one called Berlin Alexanderplatz you might wanna list. cuz it's really freakin' long.
Tallyho
:?)
Berlin Alexanderplatz and QBVII were TV miniseries, not regular films.
lol short films that feel long -good idea.
so wait is that just really boring films?
I think so. Good point.
Tallyho
:?)
War and Peace (1956) is 205 minutes long.
I wonder why you're including movies under 200 minutes at all - there are dozens of movies longer than 200 minutes. And Donnie Darko Director's cut? Probably the 10,000th longest running time for a movie ever. Woo-hoo!
Meh, I'm sure it's not a definitive list. Let him have his fun.
:)
yes let me have my fun ;]
ok lukeprog, the reason ive included 'under 200 min' films are 3 fold
1)makes my list bigger
2)i really like the films that are less(pulp.ect)
3)Im putting them in if i found they seemd long when i wathed them as in the case for h.potter and pulp fiction.
Bye !
Okay, just theatrical movies, well there's War & Peace by Sergei Bondarchuck (or something like that) at a wopping 507 minutes, Russian film though. Tis a long one, but strangely never boring.
And 1900 by Bertolucci which is 250 or there abouts and talk about boring. Fell asleep on it twice. Still pretty good though.
And then there's most films by Ken Loach which just feel really long...a preachy...and boring...and long-winded...etc.
Tallyho
:?)
ok ty for your help. i have to different runtimes for 'War & Peace' but will include both. ill check out Ken loach's movies aswell ty for the tip!
Yes, they are two different moviess with the same title.
confussing
Oh, happens all the time. There are 7 full-length feature films with the title "Saving Grace" and 9 with the title "The Last Days of Pompeii."
Dunno if this qualifies, but I just remembered that three Godfather movies were edited together in chronological order for home video release in 1992. If so, The Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980 clocks in at 583 minutes.
-=-=-=UPDATED=-=-=-=
=-=-UPDATED-=-=
Greed (1924), if it had a 'director's cut', would be more than 9 hours long. But I'm not sure exactly how long, and there is no director's cut surviving :-)
thx thats great, ill add
oh lol, ok :-)
I'd suggest:
Napoléon (1927) (378 mins)
The Birth of a Nation (1915) (190 mins)
I'd mention Warren Beatty's "Reds" (194 mins).
Don't worry, it's not as long as it feels...
Les Enfants du paradis (Children of Paradise) is 190 minutes long (as is the copy I got from the library), although imdb lists the USA release runtime as only 163 minutes.
I forgot Giant, clocking in at 201 minutes.
As long as we've got Andy Warhol in the door, we should also mention "Imitation of Christ" (480 mins), "The Chelsea Girls" (210 mins) and the original cut of "Four Stars" (1100 mins).
Here's some more stuff, too:
"Hamlet" (1996) - 242 mins
"La Belle Noiseuse" - 240 mins
"A Brighter Summer Day" - director's cut runs 237 mins
"Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India" - 224 mins

"Minority Report" - 145 mins
Wow! thx ..dang thats alot! ok im going too put it in but make have is own section for now because it will take along time to find the right places by time. But Thx so much! ty
Here another film with a long run time:
JFK (189 mins)
thx 1922
Maybe I overlooked this.
But, I think "Dances With Wolves" is pretty darn long.
cool ill check it out, thank you
yup 180mins, its in thx
I forgot about Fanny And Alexander, which runs 312 minutes in its original director's cut.
'Les Vampires' (1915) by Louis Feuillade has a run time of 440 minutes.
wow! thx
I figured if I'm ragging on you for not being exhaustive, I ought to at least help you out a bit, eh?
Are you including serials (I wouldn't)? Isn't Les Vampires a serial? If so, then there are hundreds of serials you should include.
Are you including TV movies? If so, there are several hundred titles you could add, including The Trials of Vera B (2001), at 286 mins, and Cathering Courage (1993), which in Germany ran 270 mins.
If you're including video releases (which, if you're counting the DVD release of the entire Godfather trilogy), then there are hundreds more titles you can include).
I hope to God you're not including miniseries because then almost every miniseries ever made will make the list.
Dr. Mabuse, King of Crime (1922) is 297 minuts (restored version)
Heaven and Earth (1982) - 285 mins
21st Century Jet: The Building of the 777 (1996) - 285 mins
Die Große Flatter (1979) - 282 mins
Until the End of the World (1991) - 280 mins (director's cut)
Scenes from a Marriage (1973), the German version, is 275 mins
The Gate of the Sun (2004) is 270 mins
Hotel Terminus (1988) is 267 mins
The Sorrow and the Pity is 265 mins
L' Amour four (1969) is 252 mins
Return of the King's extended edition will be 251 mins
Last Tango in Paris' original cut was 250 mins
My Voyage to Italy (1999) is 246 mins
The Three Musketeers (1933) is 246 mins
Ludwig (1972): the French cut was 245 mins
Belfast, Maine (1999) is 245 mins
The Sand Pebbles (1966) - before it was censored, it was 243 mins (more than an HOUR was censored by the BBFC)
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963) was 241 mins in the UK
The Olympics in Mexico (1969) is 240 mins
The Gregersen Family (2004) is 240 mins
The Beautiful Troublemaker (1991) is 240 mins
My Name is Joker (1970) is 240 mins
Well, that's a start, anyway.
I tried not to repeat titles that you've already got, sorry if I repeated a couple anyway.
I think you should probably clearly define the criterion for your list, such as whether or not to include: video-only releases, TV movies, TV miniseries, serials, non-theatrically released cuts of films, foreign cuts of films, etc.
And personally, I'd much rather see every item on the list ranked rather than seperated by contributor.
some more good stuff:
Satan's Tango (1994) is 450 mins
The German cut of Hitler: A Film from Germany (1978) is 442 mins
The Satin Slipper (1985) is 410 mins
Foolish Wives (1922) - the Swedish cut is 384 mins
The French Revolution (1989) is 360 mins
Little Dorrit (1988), the USA cut is 360 mins
Near Death (1989) is 358 mins
I Wasnt really thinking of including Tv movies and the like but i'll use your suggestions.
Thakns for all your suggestions. by ranked do you mean something like this:
All Movies under 165
all movies above 165
something like that or did you mean another thing?
No, I meant just by number, like:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Instead of by number, then a list of all Cosgrove's contributions, then a list of all my contributions, then a list of someone else's contributions.
Also, do you plan to write up a full criterion for your list? That's what I'd MOST like to see, personally, because right now it's kind of a mess without one :-)
ok, i gave it my best shot
Hey, they're just suggestions.
'gave'?
lol im always trying to please the listology users! lol if someone says change it, i'll change it :)
"Gave" yeah like i "gave" it a shot, trying something. past tense of "give"
But 'gave' sounds so final, like my requests were so huge you just gave up!!
:-] na, just meant "Had A Go" "tried" your request was no problem :")
so... do we get to see those changes some time? lol, I'm so confused...
yeah..now. ive numbered and sperated cosgroves suggestions
Hope this is still going on...
Il Gattopardo- 183 mins
La dolce vita- 174 mins
yup it is. thx
The version of the Italian film 'Best of Youth' that was released in the United States a few days ago has a runtime of 366 minutes.
Thx mate!
Jacques Rivette's Out 1 is supposed to go for about 12 hours I think.
Also, Maurice Pialat's La Maison Des Bois, which I think was originally made as a TV mini-series, but which I'll be seeing at a cinema later this month over two days, goes for about 6 hours. And I think Abel Gance's La Roue originally went for 9 hours, but I don't think it still exists in that form.
You've got both La Belle Noiseuse and The Beautiful Troublemaker on this list - they're the same film.
Thankyou, i'll be sure to up date this very soon
I've got one more suggestion:
Woodstock, which lasts 184 minutes, and in its director's cut (which I'm gonna tape tomorrow) 228 minutes.
Thankyou, i'm going to add it at a later time. collect alor of suggestions then make one huge update, but thx.
Then, here another one: Main Hoon Na (179 min.)!
Just saw it yesterday. The first Bollywood-film I have seen, and, to my surprise, I am impressed.
thx for the contribution, thx. again i'm gonna leave it to a later date for a big update.
I have to admit i've never seen a bollywood film.
