Movies I Would Need to See to Be Acquainted With the 2005 Top Oscar Contenders
- King Kong* (Will definitely get some technical noms; likely Director nom; possible Picture nom)
- A History of Violence*6 (Dark horse contender for Picture, Director, Actor; very likely nom for William Hurt; Maria Bello will probably get nominated, but I don't know where)
- Syriana* (Very likely nom for Adapted Screenplay; probable nom for Director; Clooney might get a Supporting Actor nom - well, hell, he's gotta show up somewhere)
- Cinderella Man*** (Possible Actor nom for Russell Crowe, but Paul Giamatti may be the frontrunner for Supporting Actor; may be a dark horse Picture contender as well)
- The Squid and the Whale* (May be a dark horse for some acting noms - the Globe noms can't hurt; probable Original Screenplay nom)
- The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe* (Will definitely get some tech noms)
- Mrs. Henderson Presents*5 (For Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins)
- Junebug**** (For Amy Adams)
- Hustle and Flow**** (For Terrence Howard)
- Transamerica*5 (For Felicity Huffman)
A personal list for me to keep track of films I haven't seen that look like they'll be potential winners for many awards. This doesn't necessarily mean I want to see all of these films, and it definitely doesn't mean I will see all of these films.
Note that I HAVE seen Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Constant Gardener, Crash, Good Night and Good Luck, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Munich, Pride and Prejudice, Revenge of the Sith, and Walk the Line.
* - This movie is playing in theaters near me right now
** - Since it will most likely have a wide release, this movie should be playing in theaters near me very soon
*** - This movie is out on DVD right now
**** - This movie will be out on DVD by mid-January, well before the Oscar ceremony
*5 - Will probably have a limited release, so I have no clue if these films will ever be released near me
*6 - This movie is not still in theaters, and it comes out on DVD after the Oscar ceremony, so I really have no way of seeing it before the Oscars

Scarlett Johannson seems to be gaining steam for Match Point. She's running as Supp. Actress.
Scarlett Johannson in a lead role but being pushed by the studio as a supporting role because they don't think she has a chance at a lead nomination... where have I heard that one before...
