Movies I Refuse To Sit Through, and Why

Tags:
  • Sleepless in Seattle - Sappy, unrealistic romance story dripping with so much cheese I need a napkin.
  • Jerry Maguire - Same reason. And highly over-quoted!
  • Titanic - I know the ending without seeing the movie; what's the point? And again with the retard-o drippy romantic crap.
  • Passion of the Christ - I can take your worst slasher flick, most psyche-damaging thriller...as long as it's fiction. I know the basic story of Jesus; I don't need to sit through a hollywood recreation of such a thing.
  • Shindler's List - Same reason.
  • The English Patient - I've yet to hear a good word about this movie (except from L. Bangs! ;) ). And have I mentioned hating sappy, sentimental, unrealistic lovey garbage? Yeah.

I know I'm going to catch hell for this list, because everyone LOVES all those movies. But it's MY list, and that's the way it is.

Just because I'm ornery, I'll screw up your list. ;)

I LOVED The English Patient, and many folks did before Seinfeld made it uncool to do so. You'll find it on a list of favorite films from 1995-1999 I made a while back, where I said, "Again, laugh all you want. These romantic weepy films get blasted because 99% of them suck. This is the one that didn't."

So there, now you've heard a good word or two about The English Patient. I'm so cruel...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Well I knew people liked it; Seinfeld aside - I heard lots of people complain about it before that episode aired. With all due respect to your taste, I still can't stand sappy romance movies. I just don't relate to them at all. ;)

Fair nuff! It is Friday, and as I said, I'm simply ornery.

Besides, I nabbed a mention on your list, so all is well! :)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Lol, I think I'm the only person alive today who actually likes Titanic. :-p I suppose I just have this thing for water and boat films. The boat snapping in half... just a perfect cinematic moment for me. I loved "the Perfect Storm" just for the water effects.

Did you see (I think it was called) Ghostship? Kind of a weird one, but there is one great gory scene toward the beginning (I won't ruin it incase you haven't seen it) which parallels no other I've ever seen in a movie. And I'm a slasher film buff..

i have to say that passion is much better than any story i had heard about jesus... which isn't saying much but anyway... who said it wasn't fiction?

Am I missing something? Who is quoting Sleepless in Seattle , and what exact lines are they quoting?

Sorry. I'm one of those people who often get two things turned around & mixed up. Sleepless and Jerry Maguire are interchangeable in my mind. I believe Jerry is the one always being quoted; Sleepless is simply another one of those everyone-finds-their-soulmate sap-fests.

Cheerio! :)

Oh, okay. Here I thought I was missing out on some pop culture phenomenon surrounding Sleepless in Seattle!
