a small but growing collection

You own The Dekalog! Netflix recently yanked it from my queue as "unavailable." Amazon only sells it used for over $200. Did you splurge, or did you come by it via some other means? If I lived near you I'd ask to borrow it. :-)
dude... i had no idea how much it cost until i saw it on amazon the other day! 3 of my close friends pitched in and got it for me when it first came out--hopefully on sale!
i am totally grateful to them too... they know my affinity for kieslowski and how i went to viewings of these 4 nights in a row so i could catch them all. (the eastman house in rochester had them a few years back for one of the only public viewings in north america.) anyway, this won't be one i loan out, i'm afraid--i lost my run lola run video that way!
:-) So is The Dekalog wonderful? I know very little about it. I've only seen Kieslowski's "Three Colors" movies but enjoyed them all quite a bit.
:-) Happy birthday! You certainly picked a movie I wouldn't mind rewatching.
and i have to say i'm appreciating amelie even more (if that's possible!) now that i've watched the DVD's special features.
it's not only great to hear the background on the script and casting, and to see how they made the "look" of it so captivating, but jeunet is much higher up on my director list now... he's got kieslowski's vision and reaches hitchcock-esque levels of meticulous planning. brilliant!
I've seen everything Jeunet has made since Delicatessen, and except for Alien Resurrection, I've loved it all. Have you seen any of his earlier stuff?
nope i've just seen city of lost children, amelie and delicatessen (in that order)... but weren't the ones before delicatessen all shorts? it's hard to find that sort of thing, at least in my neck of the woods. (and i can't say i have any desire to see alien 4 but at least it made jeunet a bit more visible/known.)
Those are the ones I've seen too (plus Alien 4). I didn't realize the older ones were shorts!
