The most overrated movies
- The Matrix
- Titanic
- Lolita (Kubrick)
- Dogma
The Matrix was too much of everthing in one single movie. It was like "Philosophy+Religion+SciFi for Dummies". The fact that they're making two more sequels to the film certainly doesn't redeem it in any way.
Titanic used every single Hollywood cliche known to man. The only good part of that movie was when the ship sank and people started dying.
Lolita really should've been called "Quilty" instead. Did Kubrick read Nabokov's script at all?
Dogma. There was nothing provocative or contraversial about this movie. Kevin Smith delivered a few predictable jokes about the Catholic religion (God as a woman - who never saw that coming?), reverted to junior high fart jokes (the Shit Monster!?!?) and finally cleaned up his crap by putting some good Catholic morals into the whole thing and making sure that no one was insulted. Sure, no one intelligent was insulted. But also, no one intelligent was challenged to actually think about Catholic dogma either. If you want a good religious satire, go to Blockbuster and rent "Life of Brian" instead.

way to go dude!
i totaly agree on matrix and titanic
you shoud add godzilla and Wild Wild West too
not to mention the bullshit phantom menace
and all the other blockbuster crap
ALA LUDILA COVJECE PA TI SI IZ OPATIJE!!!!!!!
USPUT, DOBRE SU TI LISTE
I could add a whole bunch of other blockbuster movies like "Godzilla", "Wild Wild West", "I Know What You Did Last Summer", but I think it's rather self-implied that these movies are actually shitty movies. :)
Now, there are some movies like the ones I listed that get a lot of credit and many awards, but are actually not that great. They're not bad either, but they're not all what they're hyped up to be.
(Na ovom sajtu ima vise nasih ljudi nego Amera... :)
Titanic is hugely overrated, of course. Best picture? Come on! It's just a collection of the easiest cliches and bluntly stereotyped characters. I would call it one of the worst movies of the year.
I'm not sure you really need to include the Matrix on the list, though. It didn't get much critical acclaim, though it was pretty popular.
The Matrix is way overrated, but its still extremely entertaining. I also argue whole heartedly on the other due, although I would've been more lenient on Kubrick's Lolita if I hadn't experienced the book first.
i meant "agree wholeheartedly on the other two." my head must've been in the clouds or something
Anything Kubrick did should be worshipped, including the great "Lolita".
Have you read the book? You wouldn't be saying that if you had read the book.
Yes I read the book. And books and movies arent the same thing. Based on the novel, not copied from the novel. You have to look at movies as seperate entities from their source. You detract from one art form or the other if you compare the two. One's a book, one's a movie. Completely different things which I've been able to seperate and enjoy both.
If Kubrick had made a movie that was merely a spin-off of "Lolita" and advertised it as such, I would have no complaints. Rejecting most of Nabokov's own screenplay was a rude gesture and a sign of Kubrick's stuborness which he was notorious for.
There's a difference between making a movie that is influenced by a book (i.e. "Brazil" and "1984") and making a movie after a book. Kubrick attempted to make a movie after a book and in that he failed.
I disagree Zambelli.
And so you have the right to. :-)
Overall..I feel you have good taste though.
